As the officers approached the suspect who was driving near their service vehicle, “an explosive device was triggered,” according to the statement.
According to the statement, “Two police officers died from their injuries,” adding that the other person standing next to them also perished in the explosion.
According to the report, an investigation into “attempted murder” of law enforcement officers and “explosives trafficking” has been launched.
Several large police officers were present in the area, according to images that were filmed on Russian television.
A Russian general was killed earlier this week when the incident took place on Yeletskaya Street in southern Moscow.
