The couple got married in 1987, but Gary and she broke up shortly after meeting a much younger actress. The Crown actress couldn’t resist making a little dig at her famous ex despite more than three decades since their divorce.
Lesley Manville made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to criticize her ex-husband, Gary Oldman.
The Crown actress, who is currently performing in a 2, 500-year-old Greek tragedy called Oedipus, was on a US chat show to promote her most recent lead role.
Colbert asked the 69-year-old for her advice during the interview about showing her a photo of her teenage self taken when she first appeared in Emmerdale in 1975.
Don’t marry an actor, Manville retorted in response! Colbert and the studio audience both laughed at the comment.
The comment, “Don’t marry an actor! ,” was shared on X, formerly Twitter. To whom do you know her (not so) subtle shade?
She was married to Joe Dixon, a 60-year-old actor, and Gary Oldman, a 67-year-old Hollywood actor, for the first time. However, the most well-known affair between her and Gary was her brief one.
The pair first met in 1984, got married three years later, and had Alfie as their son in 1988. However, Gary left to pursue a relationship with Uma Thurman, who was only 18 at the time, just three months after his birth.
Lesley has described her devastated at the time when the pair managed to stay friends despite this. She told host Lauren Laverne, “We were having the most amazing time together, and we loved each other,” while appearing on Desert Island Discs. We were married. On my honeymoon, I became pregnant. The rug was severely pulled from under my feet as we were having the most fun.
Lesley went on to explain that she was initially concerned about telling her family that Gary had left, adding that it was simpler to pretend otherwise because of his work.
I simply said, “Oh well, I won’t tell them because it might all work out in a few months.” However, it was incredibly lonely at the time.
After meeting on the set of the State of Grace movie set, Gary and Uma briefly wed in 1990 and 1992. According to a letter from Uma, the Oscar-winner claimed he was unable to live with him and that he had dumped him. In an interview later, she later said, “It takes a special kind of woman to put up with him.”
The Mummy Returns actor Joe Dixon and Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris actor Lesley wed in 2000. Although her second marriage ended in divorce in 2004, the split attracted much less media attention than her second.
