Anne Hegerty – best known as The Governess on The Chase – has sparked outrage on social media with her comments about the death of Charlie Kirk
Anne Hegerty has angered some social media users with her comments on Charlie Kirk. The conservative activist held a rally at Utah Valley University last Wednesday when he was shot and killed.
Tyler Robinson allegedly shot Kirk in the neck with a bolt-action rifle from the roof of a nearby campus building. Following a 33-hour-long manhunt, Robinson handed himself in to police after his father recognised him from CCTV footage released by authorities.
Speaking with her followers and sharing her thoughts on Charlie Kirk’s death, she wrote: “I had never heard of Charlie Kirk before Wednesday night. Had we met, my end of the conversation would have been ‘You just said WHAT?’ and ‘Scuse me, those are my FRIENDS you’re talking about.'” She then added: “I join Bernie Sanders in deploring his murder.”

One Twitter user then wrote: “Anne, look at his debates before making assumptions – P.S. your head is big,” to which she replied: “I know, it always has been. In the jungle, I had the second largest hat size.”
Another wrote: “You’ve never heard of him yet you make stupid assumptions. There’s nothing he says that is controversial if you actually take time to listen.”
Anne then replied: “You know, Americans, this kind of hair-trigger angriness and sensitivity and telling people to stop talking is exactly why you get people doing this sort of thing in the first place. Why not try taking the temperature down a bit?”
Some called Anne “misinformed” for her comment, with one writing: “If you’ve never heard of him before Wednesday, you probably should just sit this one out.” Another shared: “This is a terribly misinformed post and you should really take it down.”
Following his death, Charlie’s wife Erika broke her silence and appeared on his streaming account. Much of her message was religious in nature, and she said Charlie died because he preached about “patriotism and god’s love.”
“Most important one, the evil doers responsible for my husband’s assassination, have no idea what they have done…. If you thought that my husband’s mission was powerful before, you have no idea what you just have unleashed across this entire country. In this world, you have no idea,” she threatened.
“You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife. The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry. To everyone listening tonight across America, the movement my husband built will not die.”
She continued: “My husband’s mission will not end, not even for a moment. We’ll never surrender. We never will ever. Ever. Our campus tour this fall will continue. There will be even more tours in the years to come.”
