Although he is best known for hosting The 1% Club and acting in Not Going Out, he doesn’t look as good in an old video clip, where he is without his now-trademark beard.

Comedian and actor Lee Mack is hardly recognisable in a resurfaced video where he appears without his now-trademark beard. The host of The 1% Club, ITV’s fiendishly-addicted gameshow, is seen looking very young in a viral clip on Facebook and TikTok, titled ‘The reason why tickets machines were invented’.

The sketch, which features a frustrated woman trying to purchase a Halifax train ticket from a ticket seller and stars a very young-faced Lee, was clearly shot just before the comedian gained notoriety with The 1% Club and the well-known BBC sitcom Not Going Out. As the woman is being asked, “Would you like a carriage that doesn’t allow the use of mobiles – or a carriage that does allow the use of mobiles,” the vendor manages to be bang up to date. She replies: “Does allow…. In Lee’s customary deadpan style, he responds, “Oh, it’s nothing special, just loads of people phoning their friends,” and he really doesn’t want to miss it.

Lee recently admitted he’s terrible at answering the show’s tricky questions.

Away from his public life, Lee – whose birth name fans, were stunned to discover, is actually Lee Gordon McKillop, is married to Tara McKillop. They tied the knot in 2005 and have a son named Arlo. Little is known about Tara as she prefers to stay out of the spotlight, unlike her husband.

In a viral video on Facebook and TikTok, he appears very young.

Lee explained a decision he once made to shave off his beard during a WILTY episode and how all of it was due to his friend David. I had a beard growing for weeks when I first shaved it because I didn’t want David to think I was a copy of him.

What did you notice that I had grown a beard, David asked? I noticed you had a beard when I looked at you, Lee replied. Do you have any luck? Do you have a breakdown?

Lee explained to his wife Tara that David might believe he had copied his beard by inviting David and Rob over for dinner. Just in case, he then made the decision to shave it off.

The team at David’s was correct in their prediction that the anecdote was accurate. Lee declared, “I’m all heart, David. I have a heart.
