Football is more than just a sport, according to the Neapolitans. It forms a way of life that has been woven into their culture.

You’ll never truly understand what Naples means unless you’ve seen it after winning the title, according to them. They are accurate.

The city erupted into an explosion of noise and color at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, which was Napoli’s fourth Scudetto after beating Cagliari 2-0.

No one lucky enough to witness it will ever forget the explosions, flares, the constant blare of scooter horns, and the screams of pure ecstasy.

“Thank you, Scotland,” In the Spanish Quarter, a fan yelled, “Thank you for McTominay.”

She turned to rejoin the street celebrations after gushing about the midfielder’s season’s prowess and yelling, “Thank you, Scotland!” before vanishing with her friends into the mist.

The best in Serie A was pierced by a different voice as it echoed through the noise. We adore you, McTominay, and you!

Scott McTominay has won everyone’s heart in Naples since joining the Serie A last summer. But he is now a legend for the contribution he made in winning the title.

Although his bicycle-kick goal just before halftime was audacious and brilliant, it was only the start. He dominated the midfield all night, barely putting a foot wrong.

He fell to the ground in tears when the final whistle came on, and he was soon adjudged Italy’s 2024-2019 champion. Anyone who has followed his path shouldn’t come away with that accolade.

And Billy Gilmour, his team-mate from abroad, was equally important throughout the campaign. This Napoli side has quietly controlled games while McTominay sabotaged the spotlight while the former Chelsea and Brighton midfielder was in charge.

Together, they have given a proud footballing nation back home something to celebrate in addition to giving Naples a night that will never forget. As the first Scots to win the Scudetto in more than 120 years, they have etched their names into history.
