After entertaining over 40, 000 people at Villa Park for Back To The Beginning, Ozzy Osbourne had a sweet moment with his Black Sabbath bandmates.
Ozzy Osbourne took to the stage for one last time just weeks before his death aged 76. The iconic rocker was joined by an array of the best in the music business for a day to remember at his beloved Villa Park.
The Back To The Beginning show saw the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Pantera and super bands including Ronnie Wood and Steven Tyler join together to give Ozzy a great send off. But it was Ozzy’s last time on stage in front of over 40,000 people that tugged on the heartstrings.
Ozzy was seen rising from a gothic throne to perform four of his solo songs to his adoring audience, which was clearly struggling. Along with guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward, he added a quintet of tunes from his Black Sabbath era.
Although footage from the day showed that this was not the case, even though fans of the livestream were left furious by what appeared to be a cold embrace by his bandmates at the performance. Some fans claimed that as they left the stage, his bandmates failed to acknowledge him, but it turns out they were just grabbing one more surprise for him.
Moments after the live stream was interrupted were captured in video. Ozzy was seen reaching for guitarist Iommi’s hand as he was emotionally charged. The stadium’s fans were then waved to by Omi and bassist Butler while other famous people, including Sharon Osbourne’s wife, watched.
Butler also addressed the final farewell shortly after the performance. He said, “I keep hearing that people watching the stream assumed our set would abruptly end with us simply walking off.”
Sorry if it appeared that way. I left Ozzy’s birthday cake in hand. Thank you for the fan’s thoughtful choice of the ending.
Ozzy was flanked by his bandmate as he looked at a cake with his name and face printed on it.
His loving family confirmed Ozzy’s death on Tuesday. Following a difficult battle with Parkinson’s disease, he was surrounded by his 72-year-old wife Sharon and their two children, Kelly and Jack.
Ozzy has experienced a number of troubling health issues over the years, but his life completely changed when he was diagnosed in 2020.
Ozzy described the difficulties he faced and the steps he took to ensure one last performance before his Birmingham performance. He told Sirius XM in May that he was in “heavy training” because he had not exercised in seven years.
By hook, not by crook, I must make it there first. This trainer helps people get back to normal, and I have him. He is persuaded that he can pull it off for me despite the challenging situation. I’m giving it everything I can.
It’s perseverance, I say. Your endurance is the first thing that comes to mind when you’re laid up. My blood pressure is checked 15 times per day… This f****** device is on my finger, which I use. My heart rate is recorded on a monitor. I’m almost always in bed by seven because I’m training seven days a week. I have a guy who is practically living with me.
