Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Manchester United, says he and his players must accept some responsibility for the club’s current financial situation.

Amorim, who spoke less than 24 hours after United announced a second round of redundancies that would result in up to 200 staff members losing their jobs, said his team must perform better as the “engine” of the club.

Before their clash with relegation-torn Ipswich at Old Trafford on Wednesday, United are now 15th in the Premier League, having lost more than $300m in the previous five years.

Their worst league outing since 1989-1990, when Sir Alex Ferguson almost almost was fired for playing for United in a relegation zone before falling to 13th place.

“We have to address all the issues in the club,” Amorim said. “One crucial aspect of this situation is to comprehend how we get here,” Amorim said.

Because we are the foundation of any football team, it has a lot to do with the football team’s poor performance.

United have fallen from third place in Erik ten Hag’s first year in charge to their current position in less than two seasons.

Some of the people they work with every day will soon be gone, even though Amorim and his squad may not be insulated from the cost-cutting measures, which the club anticipate will save £1m.

“We know this year was really hard for everybody”, said Amorim, who replaced Ten Hag in November.

“As a club, we did a lot of changes. If you make changes to a football team that is winning games and playing well, it makes it easier for the fans and everyone else to feel that. However, the club and the pitch are currently going through a difficult time right now. We have to fight against this feeling.
