Following their heart-felt victory at the Ryder Cup, Team Europe has been named the BBC Sports Personality Team of the Year 2025.
With a 15-13 triumph in New York, Captain Luke Donald led the Europeans to their first victory on American soil since 2012.
Europe won their fifth match of the tournament in the United States against a disgruntled home crowd at Bethpage Black, just before it was established in 1927.
With a 1112-4112 lead heading into Sunday’s final day, the Europeans opened the door for one of Ryder Cup history’s most dramatic days.
Before the final day, either side had a seven-point lead, and Europe only needed three more points to win.
The USA staged a superb fightback to resurrect themselves from a four-point deficit to triumph.
However, Europe still managed to hold on for their first away victory since the 2012 “miracle at Medinah.”
To claim the prize, they defeated England’s women’s rugby world cup champions and women’s football team that had won the Euro 2025 championship.
The team won the Ryder Cup for the seventh time in 2010 and for the first time since then.
Rugby league side Wigan Warriors won the quadruple after winning the 2024 prize.
Maggie Alphonsi, a former rugby world champion from 2014, Anita Asante, a former England international football player who won a double Paralympic gold medal in the same year, Carl Frampton, a former world champion boxer from Germany, and Ebony Rainford-Brent, a cricket player who won the 2009 World Cup, made the shortlisting panel.
Josh Denzel, Kelly Cates, Kelly Cates, the host of the TV show’s “Sports,” Riath Al-Samarrai, the Times Sports reporter, and the media personality and sports presenter Molly Hudson were also present.
