Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Onassis, and her cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the US Secretary of Health, did not see eye-to-eye with her.

Prior to her tragic death at the age of 35, Tatiana Schlossberg criticized her close friend Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as an “embarrassment.” The late author and journalist was the daughter of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the late wife of John F. Kennedy, the country’s storied president.

Tatiana’s first cousin, once removed, was Caroline Kennedy, 68, who is the current secretary of health and human services for the United States. Tatiana passed away on Tuesday, just weeks after she was revealed to have been diagnosed with cancer.

The JFK Library Foundation shared the sad news alongside a photo of the author, which they posted via Instagram. The announcement stated: “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.” The post was signed by her husband, George Moran, and their children, Edwin and Josephine, as well as her parents, Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, her siblings, Jack and Rose, and her cousin, Rory.

The Kennedy family is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable in American history, but there are times when the two families disagree. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s close ally not fully supported him in his 2024 presidential campaign attempt.

Tatiana was one of the fiercest critics of the politician, who was appointed Secretary of Health and Human Services by current President Donald Trump following his landslide win last year. She went as far as to brand him an “embarrassment” to her family.

She stated in an article for The New Yorker that she had never worked in medicine, public health, or the government, and that she had watched from her hospital bed.

“I watched as Bobby cut nearly a half billion dollars for research into mRNA vaccines, technology that could be used against certain cancers; slashed billions in funding from the National Institutes of Health, the world’s largest sponsor of medical research; and threatened to oust the panel of medical experts charged with recommending preventive cancer screenings.”

Tatiana used the essay as a platform to explain that she had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia and that she had learned of her diagnosis after the birth of her daughter in 2024. She continued, noting that Caroline, the only surviving child of JFK and Jackie, had the impression that tragedy appeared to follow her family, and that she felt guilty about the pain her diagnosis would cause her mother.

She remarked, “I have tried my best to be good, a good student, a good sister, and a good daughter, and to protect my mother without getting her upset or angry.” There is nothing I can do to stop her life and the life of our family, which I have just added a new tragedy to.

Following the news of Tatiana’s death, social media has been flooded with messages of condolences from individuals around the world. One wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “So young.. cancer took someone close to me too. Hug your people tight. love to her family.”

Her husband and two children are also present in the non-fiction book Inconspicuous Consumption: The Environmental Impact You Don’t Know You Have. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made public.
