Aminu Alkali, the deputy governor of Taraba State, has resumed his official duties after a medical absence since November 2024.

Alkali was seated in his office and checking files with some of his aides as he returned to work, according to a video clip that was made available to Channel Television.

He resumed his workday, but it wasn’t immediately known.

Emmanuel Lawson, the governor’s deputy chief of staff, was appointed during his absence to oversee some responsibilities in his office, causing controversy. He was portrayed as the deputy governor’s replacement.

However, Governor Agbu Kefas recently stated that the move is temporary administrative oversight for efficient governance and service delivery to residents in his first speech to address the growing concern and address the growing public’s concerns.

The governor made it clear that the deputy governor’s illness is not related to his own agenda.

The governor of the North-East state addressed the audience in the broadcast by saying, “I have no hidden agenda when handling issues relating to his health and have not gone against the law by not choosing another deputation me.”

“I’m optimistic that he will recover from his medical treatment and resume his official duties,” he said. “If anything goes wrong, the constitution, my conscience, and the necessity doctrine will determine his fate.”

Alkali was being treated in Taraba State but would return once that was finished, according to the Taraba State government in March.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Usman, claimed the deputy governor had suffered a stroke following a briefing.

The deputy governor’s ability to talk was affected by the stroke, according to Zainab, but she claimed Alkali is recovering and plans to resume soon.

His excellency had a condition that necessitated his travel to Abuja for treatment around November last year.

He was later moved to Cairo, Egypt, for further examinations, and the health commissioner was given the authority to check his health status from Abuja. In light of his health condition, Taraba residents need to sympathize with the executive council, his excellency, and the deputy governor.
