Taina Elg dead: Gene Kelly’s co-star and Golden Globe winner dies

Taina Elg, the winner of Les Girls and the Golden Globes, passed away at the age of 95. The star’s family confirmed that she passed away on May 15 at a Helsinki care facility.

The actress was most famous for playing Gene Kelly in Les Girl, for which she received the Golden Globe for her role in a musical or comedy. She appeared in The Mirror Has Two Faces, Hercules in New York, and The 39 Steps. Taina and Raul Julia co-starred in the 1974 revival of Rank Loesser’s Where’s Charley?, and they both won the hearts of theaters.

She was later honored for her performance in a production of Nine and received a Tony Award for her performance. Later, she made a tour of Titanic in 1999 before joining Gigi in 1984 until 1985.

The Finnish actress’s best known roles included her role in Gaby from 1956, which earned her first Golden Globe nomination, as well as her roles in 1955’s The Prodigal and 1956’s The Prodigal.

In the American soap One Life to Live, Taina reprised the role of Olympia Buchanan in the 1980s as the wife of Texas tycoon Asa Buchanan. Her performance at a costume party brought her character to a close on the show.

Taina and Carl Poku Bjorkenheim, both of whom she married, were married twice in their lives, starting in 1953 and ending their marriage in 1958. Rocco Caporale, an educator, and her husband wed a second time in 1982, and they lived together until his passing in 2008.

After her second husband’s passing, she made the decision to move back to Finland. Raoul Bjorkenheim, a Finish-American jazz guitarist, is one of her children who survives.
