Before the US Open begins on Sunday, world number three Iga Swiatek claimed that winning the Cincinnati Open had given her a “boost of confidence.”

The WTA 1000 event’s six-time Grand Slam champion defeated seventh seed Jasmine Paolini 7-5, 6-4, to claim her first career victory.

“I’m pleased with the work we’ve been doing, happy with the process,” he said. She expressed her satisfaction that she won in straight sets.

“I play well.” I’m capable of playing anywhere.

The 24-year-old Pole maintained his consistent form throughout the week in Ohio.

Paolini took the lead in the French Open final last year, which Swiatek won, before Swiatek rattled off five games in a row to take the first set.

In the seventh game, 2022 US Open champion Swiatek took the decisive break before handing the victory two games later, despite the pair’s twice-changing breaks in the second set.

Swiatek converted all six of her break point opportunities, hitting nine aces to Paolini’s none.

Swiatek is only two points clear of breaking Serena Williams’ record, which she holds for 11 titles in the WTA 1000.
