Is it getting harder to predict Premier League results?

BBC Sport’s football expert Chris Sutton believes it is – and not just because he lost to AI again last week.

He said, “Fair play to AI for doing so well, but it just makes me believe it’s not really AI.” “It’s either copying me, or someone must be telling it what to do.

However, I must admit that making these predictions is getting more difficult. Everyone is beating everyone, and only Arsenal appear immune.

“Last year, you could hang your hat on Liverpool winning every game, but not now. Even so, I don’t think anyone in the world thought Nottingham Forest would win 3-0 at Anfield last week”.

Sutton isn’t quite right, though, because 38 of you predicted a 3-0 success for the Forest out of almost 45 000 predictions, according to BBC readers. Still, there were 20 other scorelines that were more popular picks, most of them involving a Liverpool victory.

This weekend, where will the shocks take place? Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against AI, BBC Sport readers and a variety of guests.

He squares off against rapper Kofi Stone, a fan of Aston Villa, for week 13.

His new album, All The Flowers Have Bloomed, is out now.

Do you concur with their evaluations? You can make your own predictions below.

The tables and scoreboards at the bottom of this page feature the most widely used scoreline for each game.

Stone claims that when his uncle bought him a Villa shirt when he moved to Birmingham as a young boy, he made the decision to support him.

“No-one told me who to support, but that’s how it started”, he told BBC Sport.

I was born in Walthamstow, but I wasn’t a football fan at the time, but when I moved, my uncle gave me that top, and I just believe that Birmingham made sense.

” I just didn’t let go of the shirt. Even though I can’t recall the exact year, it still had AST as its sponsors.

“I hardly ever took it off. My mother claims that I used to wait by the washing machine to finish it so I could wear it once more when she wanted to wash it.

” I’ve got to be honest though, I wasn’t that loyal to begin with.

Darius Vassell, one of my favorite Villa players, was one of my cousins who would laugh at me when I moved back to London because I was a big fan, so I wore a City shirt for a while.

” As well as Vassell, I just remember Thomas Hitzlsperger was amazing – he had a rocket shot on him – and up front Juan Pablo Angel was brilliant, then Gabriel Agbonlahor too. “

Some Villa legends there, but what about Chris Sutton, who left in 2006?

” It was a short stint he had with us, wasn’t it? “added Stone,”

” I obviously know him as a pundit, but I don’t really remember him much as a Villa player. Sorry, Chris.

Chris Sutton and Kofi Stone were speaking to BBC Sport’s Chris Bevan.

Brentford were a penalty kick away from getting a point at Brighton last week, but Igor Thiago had his injury-time effort saved.

Keith Andrews, the Bees’ manager, claimed Thiago missed it because he had to wait too long to take it. He later took it back. I mean, come on Keith, you are better than that!

It’s a part of football now, but I’m not saying it’s ideal to have to wait for a penalty like that.

Brentford’s results have been decent at home, with four wins out of six, and they should win this too, but it might be closer than people expect.

Because of how poorly do I believe Burnley have performed, I don’t believe their form suggests otherwise.

Wolves, with 10 defeats, are the only team to have lost more games than the Clarets (eight) so far, but I still feel like Scott Parker’s side have been competitive.

Some fighting, spirit, and organization are present in Burnley. Their biggest problem, though, is that they struggle to score.

Let’s hope Brentford can maintain that record of scoring two goals per game at home, which I originally predicted they would win 1-0.

Sutton’s prediction: 2-0

Kofi’s prediction: This will be close. 1-2-1

What information do we collect from this quiz?

I made my predictions last week wrong because I went for a draw, but Leeds could have easily had gained from that defeat.

It feels like they put so much into the first half, that they were not able to maintain that intensity and, from what I saw, there must also be question marks over whether they are going to score enough goals.

There is no way I can predict Leeds will win this time around, despite the fact that I am also playing this game for Radio 5 Live.

Their home form has been decent, but away they have struggled – and the last time they kept a clean sheet anywhere was the end of August.

Newcastle and Bayer Leverkusen both lost to Manchester City, which also happened last week.

Boss Pep Guardiola made 10 changes for the Champions League game with Leverkusen which was a strange thing to do, and it backfired massively because now his team have got work to do to make the knockout stage automatically.

Their recent form before the international break suggested they had turned the page and were going to take the lead over Arsenal. Two defeats in a week in two different competitions tells a different story, though.

Even so, I don’t think City is having any issues here. Playing Leeds, at home, is a great opportunity for them to get back on track.

Everyone who plays in Fantasy Premier League, including myself, is thinking to triple captain Erling Haaland, who will score a barrel load.

Sutton’s prediction: 4-0

Kofi’s prediction: City will enjoy the ride. 3-1

What happens at Bournemouth might depend on whether key forward Antoine Semenyo can play for them as a result of the club’s recent injuries, which could explain their form.

He missed last week’s draw with West Ham with illness and also has an ankle problem, but without him his side still came back from 2-0 down to take a point – another result I got wrong.

I was absolutely correct last week about Fulham’s 1-0 win over Sunderland, but I’m not sure how this game will turn out.

It feels like choosing a winner is a toss of a coin, and in those situations I usually go for a 1-1 draw.

However, this time, I’m going to say Bournemouth will win again because of the abuse I received online from a specific Sunderland fan for a “stupid” prediction for the Fulham game.

He accused me of being really thick for predicting a 1-0 Fulham win and, while I am often quite stupid, there might be a little bit of egg on his face now.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-2

I really like what David Moyes is doing at Everton. They won at Old Trafford on Monday, coming in first with 11 men and then especially with 10 more.

I quite enjoyed the spat between between Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane that led to Gueye’s red card. I can tell you that there were many team members who wanted to thump me. Looking back, I would have absolutely deserved it too.

Everton have a few things going for them, including Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Iliman Ndiaye, but they just don’t have a goalkeeper.

Their centre-forward against Manchester United, Thierno Barry, actually did all right. He didn’t appear to be scoring, but he worked so hard and was receiving numerous balls up to him in that situation with 10 men.

Whether it is Barry or Beto who starts against Newcastle, they are both due a goal – Beto has not found the net since August, while Barry has not scored this season.

One of the few things that hasn’t been consistent since the start of the season is Newcastle’s away form, which is really bad, aside from Everton’s center-forward not scoring. They haven’t won on the road in the league since April.

With the level of quality they have in their team, I’m always left wondering, “Will it change this week?”

They will have their moments against Everton, but I am not looking at this game and thinking they will go there and win. Instead, I’ll remain steadfast.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-1

Kofi’s prediction: Newcastle are undoubtedly a strong side, but their standing is not. I think both team’s style of play will be quite similar. 1 – 1 –

What information do we collect from this quiz?

Tottenham played well in their defeat by Paris St-Germain on Wednesday and that makes me think they might have too much for Fulham.

Marco Silva’s side still has trouble and must have won to avoid being dragged into the relegation scrap after their defeat at Sunderland.

Fulham’s away record is pretty awful but then so is Tottenham’s home form, so the obvious thing to go for here is a draw.

Even though I only spent four seasons making these predictions, I finally have some logic to use.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-1

Kofi’s prediction: Spurs have got a point to prove after last weekend’s north London derby. 1-2-1

What information do we collect from this quiz?

I read an article this week which said how Manchester United are either high as a kite or low as a snake’s belly – there is never any middle ground where they are just doing all right.

United had won five games without losing before the international break, and I was constantly told they were “back.” Now, after such an awful display and defeat against Everton’s 10 men on Monday, they are back in trouble.

Although both of these teams have a 3-4-1 formation, Crystal Palace’s players still appear to be much more comfortable with it.

United have a poor record at Selhurst Park in recent seasons, and have not won there since 2019. That won’t change on Sunday, in my opinion.

My only concern about the Eagles is if they pick up any injuries in the Europa Conference League tie on Thursday, but I am still backing them.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-0

Kofi’s prediction: Palace have no fear and they can cause anyone problems. 1-2-1

What information do we collect from this quiz?

New boss Rob Edwards did not get the start he wanted with Wolves last week and things will not be any easier here.

Everything points to a win for Aston Villa, and I don’t anticipate any surprises.

Villa’s only real issue at the moment is that Ollie Watkins cannot find his form – I have been there myself as a striker, when you can just become a bit hesitant rather than instinctive, but it will only take a goal or two to get him going again.

Wolves, bottom club, are in serious trouble, I suppose. I remember one season with Blackburn]1996-97] when we had four points from our first 11 Premier League games.

We ultimately stayed up, but respectable players and a strong play-style led to some incredible results. I am not so sure Wolves have that about them.

Sutton’s prediction: 2-0

Kofi’s big prediction: This will be. I am in London at the moment and I’m really disappointed I can’t go because the atmosphere would be unreal. I’m going with the boys, of course, to win! 3-0

Kofi on Villa’s season: It started off looking a little rocky, but Unai Emery has embodied this idea. We think we can defeat anyone. Hopefully we can stay in the top four.

What information do we collect from this quiz?

What a phenomenal result for Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche at Anfield last week.

Although Liverpool’s lack of form can be debated as much as they like, Forest deserves a lot of praise.

This is a tough game to call, though, because I always fancy Brighton to score a goal or two.

The Seagulls have only won once throughout the season away from home, which just makes me wonder if something is coming up here.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-1

Kofi’s prediction: Brighton might edge this. 1- 2

What information do we collect from this quiz?

Liverpool’s run of defeats cannot go on indefinitely, but what is there to suggest it will end on Sunday against the Hammers?

I had a problem with predicting Manchester City’s performance last year because they had lost a lot of games, but I kept believing they would turn things around.

But you get to a stage where you have to just go with your gut, forget what a good team Liverpool used to be, and instead make a prediction based on the way they are playing at the moment.

I don’t see Liverpool keeping a clean sheet because West Ham’s performance has definitely improved under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Sutton’s prediction: 2-1

class=”ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3″>Kofi’s prediction: In the last few games, it seems like Liverpool have a little bit dropped the ball. West Ham are going to go for it, too. 2-2-2

What information do we collect from this quiz?

This is a big one – second versus first – and it is not the time to sit on the fence.

I was correct when I predicted Tottenham would win the game, but I went 3-0 and it was 4-1. Despite this, I was so brave and so close.

I like what Enzo Maresca is doing at Chelsea and he is another manager who sticks to his principles in the way his team play.

I still believe Arsenal will be too strong for them given that Chelsea have already kept three clean sheets in a row.

Mikel Arteta’s side showed how good they are when they beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday. They have demonstrated their ability to defeat any team in any way, including when they out-muscle, out-fight, or-play them. Chelsea is their home.

Maresca might go with some pace up top again like he did against Barcelona’s high line, but Arsenal will have too much nous for them and I actually think they will win pretty comfortably.

I don’t see Chelsea or anyone else pushing Arsenal into the title race, despite their excellent start to the season.

Sutton’s prediction: 0-2

My initial prediction for Chelsea was 1-1, but I believe there may be more goals than that. The more I think about it, too, the more I think Arsenal will win. 3 – 2

How did Sutton do last time?

Chris scored 140 points in the 10 games he played in week 12, including three exact results, but that wasn’t enough to win.

He did do better than his guest, singer Olly Murs, who also got six correct results, but only one exact score, giving him 90 points.

And Chris outdid the BBC readers’ collective efforts, which resulted in them receiving four correct results with three exact scores and receiving 130 points.
