Jo Frost, the supernanny star, has blasted parents for “neglect,” accusing them of neglecting their young children when she questioned the value of supervising them while they brush their teeth. She expressed concern about the growing responsibility teachers are held accountable for through various schemes.

Her comment comes shortly after health minister Stephen Kinnock instituted a “brushing scheme” in schools to promote oral health in young children. The program, which is being taught in schools and nurseries, will encourage children to use fluoride toothpaste to brush their teeth.

Jo, 54, took to Instagram to criticize parents who don’t supervise their young children when they brush their teeth after the scheme was revealed. Parents, if you aren’t supervising your young children or brushing your VERY young children’s teeth, that is PARENTAL NEGLIGENCE, according to the childcare expert.

What other options do parents have, she wrote in the caption? How many other life skill schemes will teachers have to take on to distract them from their true responsibilities when it is actually the parents’ responsibility to uphold, because failing to do so is child neglect? Your child should receive the care they need and fulfill their fundamental rites. Child Negligence avoids doing so.

She discussed the new dental hygiene program (Instagram/ @jofrost) and gave her thoughts.

Where are the healthy boundaries established, and how can families be taught the consequences of such neglect, the separation between their responsibilities as primary caregivers and schools, clearly needed? Nationally recognized dental decay warnings might be better suited, as parents will likely recognize this awareness on their screens, rather than as national commercials.

It is appalling to see one to five children with decayed teeth and children in hospitals’ outpatients who have decayed teeth. A child’s overall health depends on good oral hygiene. Parents, you spend more time on your phones than you do teaching basic hygiene to your young children.

According to Jo, the country is “in a parenting crisis” because it seems parents can’t take their kids’ teeth for a short period of time. She also attacked the health minister, saying, “Perhaps rather than all these schemes, you might as well take into account that the majority of food that is cheaper for our families struggling in this economy, in the UK, is higher in sugar and other foods. You might also want to consider having 500, 000 Supernannies trained in their homes to help educate and support them at this crucial stage of families in the formative years from 0 to 7”

While her supporters reacted to her rant, some angry parents criticized her for using the word “neglect.” However, many people defended her, saying that “for everyone who says it’s not neglect or neglect is a strong word, it’s a safeguarding concern and falls under the category of neglect, which includes not taking care of children’s physical needs, such as teeth brushing,”

Starting in April, hundreds of thousands of three to five-year-olds from poorer areas will be supported to properly brush their teeth. The number one reason children between the ages of five and nine are admitted to hospitals is because tooth extractions in emergencies are still the cause of tooth decay.

After 14 years of neglect, Prime Minister Keir Starmer had pledged to “restore the legacy of a rotten Tory government.” Additionally, Colgate consented to donate 23 million toothpaste tubes and toothbrushes over the course of five years to help the program.

According to the government, toothbrushing support will be provided for up to 600,000 children annually.
