Guinness Men’s Six Nations: England v Scotland
Venue: Allianz Stadium, Twickenham Date: Saturday, 22 February Kick-off: 16: 45 GMT
With Bath flanker Ted Hill stepping in for Lock George Martin, he will not play in England’s Six Nations match against Scotland on Saturday.
Martin, 23, replaced Gregor Townsend’s side in the second-round of England’s victory over France, which was the only change made by head coach Steve Borthwick when Ollie Chessum entered the second row.
England confirmed that Martin hasn’t remediated a rumored knee issue sustained against Les Blues despite being named in the matchday squad on Tuesday.
Former head coach Eddie Jones last made a cap for England against the United States in 2021 when Hill, 25, made two appearances for Bath.
“I’ve been an admirer of Ted for a while”, England captain Maro Itoje told BBC Sport. He is a fantastic player who also shares his physical characteristics with Superman and reminds me of Superman when I look at him while wearing glasses.
” I am very happy for him, I know he is going to do well. “
Given that Hill frequently plays in the back row, Chessum’s debut for England in nearly a year is under pressure due to the absence of a specialist lock on the bench, which Hill has occasionally done in the second row.
His final second row start was in Bath’s victory over Gloucester in October, when England senior assistant coach Richard Wigglesworth claimed he trained “completely in that position” on Thursday.
” George was not quite right this morning so we made that decision pre-training, “Wigglesworth said.
” Ted is an incredible athlete, not only quick across the ground, but quick in the air, line-out time.
He’ll add that while George Martin has a different set of super strengths, he’ll likely bring the best out of him when he starts.”
