Actor Lewis Cope is competing in the current series of Strictly Come Dancing and has been impressing the judges week after week

Strictly Come Dancing star Lewis Cope’s girlfriend shared a sweet message after fans said he was “thrown under the bus” after last night’s show. The actor was left apologising to his partner Katya Jones following their performance on Saturday night. The star was heard saying “sorry” to Katya during the quarter final routine.

It was Musicals Week on the show and the pair danced a salsa to Dance At The Gym from West Side Story. They still managed to score a respectable 35 out of a possible 40 points but the judges pointed out that it wasn’t his strongest dance so far. Shirley Ballas told Lewis “it wasn’t your best dance, for me, by far” as Craig Revel Horwood agreed and said: “We have seen you dance better.”

However, Anton Du Beke said had an “incredible physicality” and added: “All in all… I rather liked it.” The couple then went and joined Claudia Winkleman in the Clauditorium to chat about the dance.

Katya was asked about her motto as the pro dancer shared: “It’s my motto for life – more is more. I’ve just been looking for a partner who can match me and finally I’ve found one. All my life I’ve been told, ‘less Katya, less’. Never! More is more!”

Lewis grinned before they both said in unison: “More is more!” Lewis’ girlfriend Rachel Lopez shared a sweet message praising her boyfriend. Commenting on a clip of his dance, she said: “I am so beyond proud of you. Your strength is like nothing I have ever see. So beautiful inside and out.”

This comes as fans pointed out that they think Lewis wasn’t given a good song for the style of dance. One person took to social media to say: “That song was HORRIBLE for a salsa….”

While another wrote: “Lewis and Katya were done dirty by the producers – terrible song choice for a salsa for an overdone musical.” A third viewer said: “Honestly I love West Side Story but that was a dreadful song for a salsa. It wasn’t Lewis’ best but suchhhh an epic production.”

“Lewis song choice made it a very strange salsa. Bit disappointing. #Strictly,” another added. As one commented: “The music is TOTALLY wrong for a salsa. Lewis has been thrown under the bus massively here #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”
