The professional dancer joked he would leave if they brought home another child earlier this year, but Gorka Marquez and Gemma Atkinson welcomed a new member to the family.
Gorka Marquez joked he would “leave” Gemma Atkinson if she welcomed a new addition into their household. Professional dancer Gorka and former soapstar Gemma met while appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2007.
The couple, who share two children together, recently welcomed goldendoodle Benji into their lives. It came after Gemma’s older dogs, Norman and Ollie, died last year.
On the couple’s Lost in Translation podcast, Gorka however revealed Benji had been jumping on the couple’s bed in the night, waking him up and landing in “painful” places. It prompted Gorka to issue a plea for Gemma to make Benji sleep downstairs or off the bed.
Gemma, however, made the announcement that she wants to adopt a new dog and that he should be slept in a different room. Gorka, who recently returned from a tour with fellow Strictly pro Karen Hauer, said: “Benji wasn’t really jumping on the bed, and I slept very badly because Benji kept me awake.”
Gemma, I told her, “We can’t keep having this, Benji can’t keep sleeping on the bed,” and she said, “Well you can go in the spare room.” That is what will happen, then.
Gemma joked that it was “love me, love my dog” situation. She continued, “Some couples do sleep in separate rooms, adding that this doesn’t imply that they” love one another any less.”
Gorka, who lives with Gemma and Mia and Thiago together, claims he recently went to check on their son at night only to discover that the dog had taken his place. The pooch was “living his best life” on the couple’s bed, Gemma claimed.
The former Hollyoaks actress went on to say that Benji is “like a little shadow.” She added: “Wait until we get another one.”
I’ll leave then, Gorka joked. If we could, Gemma said, “I would have four dogs. “
Gorka continued to say that he enjoyed the dog. He said, “He needs to go down, but I love him.” Although I do love him dearly, I still think that you are my dog and my pet, and you either sleep on the floor or downstairs.
Gemma claims to see the dog as a “best friend and companion” but is not. She claims that she “cracks on” the dog and allows him to do whatever he wants.
When Gemma and Aljakorjanec first appeared on Strictly in 2017, the former model duo teamed up.
She came in second place behind Debbie McGee, Gorka, Alexandra Burke, and Giovanni Pernice. The series was won by Katya Jones and Joe McFadden.
