The Strictly Come Dancing star slammed the person behind the cruel joke as “disrespectful” after posting a furious rant on Instagram about a hoax that claimed he had died of cancer.
One Strictly Come Dancing star has slammed a cruel hoax that claimed he’d died of cancer. Danny John-Jules took to Instagram to share what had been said about him and unleashed a furious rant, calling the joke a “disrespect of a terrible disease” that has affected “so many”, including his dance partner, Amy Dowden.
Danny shared a screenshot of a Facebook post on Thursday, December 18 with Instagram. A death announcement attributed to Danny’s son was posted on an account called Death in Paradise Fans in it. They reportedly stated, “Sad news: We share the news that my father, Danny John-Jules, has passed away.

My father has battled cancer for a long time, but he has now come to peace with God. Everyone I can’t thank you for… Dante Langlais-John-Jules, Danny’s son, is sharing this.
Danny, who is not dead, furiously criticized who spread the rumor in the caption of his post. He said, “Whoever finds the c***ish c*** who brought my son (singing) into this disrespectful disrespect of a terrible disease that blights the lives of so many has my permission to cut their balls off (Or the female equivalent).”
Fans of the actor from Death in Paradise filled the comments with agreement. One person wrote, “My father is fighting this horrible battle with cancer, and it’s the worst imaginable thing (aside from war of course), so to play a joke on the lowest level. I’m so happy for you and my family, and I’m so happy for you.
One person remarked, “Honestly, I don’t know what’s wrong with people. This year, there has been far too much demise and sadness. Why do people believe that this is funny or a good way to engage people? Just now, I’ve seen a lot of other hoax death announcements! “Glorid you’re still with us, DJJ, and may it continue forever!”
Danny, who is best known for the TV shows Death In Paradise and Red Dwarf, competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018. He was eliminated seventh, alongside his dance partner Amy Dowden. In 2023, Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy. She was later diagnosed with another type of cancer and had chemotherapy.
The relationship between Danny and Amy was questioned after Danny was accused of bullying her on the show, which reportedly brought her to tears. This has been vehemently denied by Nannah. According to a source who spoke to The Sun, “Amy has been crying constantly because of Danny.” In the training room, he swears and yells at her frequently and is very angry.
Danny addressed the claims on the My Time Capsule podcast with Michael Fenton Stevens, and called Strictly “dirty” and accused bosses of making the allegations up. “It’s a dirty show on that level. On that level, it’s a filthy show – It’s based on tabloid stories,” he said.
The best part of Strictly is that no matter who you are, you’re entering a well-oiled machine, which was the show’s biggest audience at the time. When I entered, I already knew what they had in store for me. They just went out and made it up because I wasn’t giving them anything to chew on.
What did I actually do that caused everyone to be so upset, I said to everyone? Nobody has actually told me, I don’t know. They basically created this cockamamie tale about bullying, which consisted basically of dog whistling about bullying my partner.
At the time, a BBC spokesperson said: “This claim is categorically untrue.” The BBC may be facing further accusations of orchestrating a contestant’s exit, as it has been reported that 2025 contestant Thomas Skinner is set to sue the broadcaster for rigging the votes. But the BBC have said they have received no paperwork regarding a lawsuit.
