After going on a “danger” trip in the past, Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke decided to stay at home while his family took a winter break.
Anton Du Beke confessed “I’m fearful” whilst recounting a “terrible” experience during a family getaway. The 52-year-old Anton shares twins George and Henrietta with his wife Hannah Summers.
Anton made the announcement in February that his family had left for a skiing vacation to avoid the slopes while he stayed at home. The Strictly Come Dancing judge admits he’s too terrified to try the sport himself, but calls his kids “great skiers.”
Anton did, however, once join the family on one of their excursions, something he acknowledges was a “terrible” decision for someone unable to ski. Rather than skiing, Anton found himself worrying he’d require rescue after battling through “waist-deep” snow.
He explained on the podcast Putt and Strut that: “I went skiing with them a few years ago, and they’re really good skiers.” They are fantastic skiers, and it’s great to start young.
“I just went along, and I don’t ski,” and it’s a terrible holiday if you don’t ski. You know how terrifying I am of the old pins.
When they went down to the base of the mountain, they went up a ski lift that was only a few hundred meters up to the top, and I thought, “Well, I won’t get on the thing, I’ll have a walk up.”
Anton claimed at the time that he was wearing “snow shoe” trainers. You can’t walk in waist-deep snow in it, he continued.
It was snowing when I began walking up this section that they weren’t skipping on. I climbed halfway up and became a little stuck in the waist-deep snow. I looked like some bloke who had just wandered in after walking up a hill of snow and seeing everyone else skiing in all the gear.
On the side of this hill, I saw myself being saved, I thought. It was so humiliating. I had to go up because I was wet, and literally, “What is he doing?” asked the question. ‘”.
Anton will be back on our screens at 7.25pm on BBC One, participating in the Great British Sewing Bee Christmas special.
Lucy Beaumont, Lucy Beaumont, Susan Wokoma, and Tom Wilson, better known as Hammer from Gladiators, will be competing against him.
The contestants will attempt to recreate Santa Claus’ sack in a way that is unique, as well as creating outfits in line with The Twelve Days of Christmas. Additionally, they’ll create clothing for models in the spirit of their favorite holiday treats.
Anton announced on social media that he was “delighted to share that I’ll be appearing on The Great British Sewing Bee Celebrity Christmas Special alongside the wonderful Lucy Beaumont, Susan Wokoma, and Tom Wilson” Get creative, folks.
