In recent years, Amy Dowden has battled breast cancer to return to the Strictly dance floor following her diagnosis in 2023, inspiring thousands of people.
Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has spoken about her current cancer status after suffering some health scares recently.
Amy, 35, appeared on The Dr Hilary Show podcast, where she shared her happiness over being in remission, but went on to explain that doctors had recently found “specks on my other breast”.
Amy, a 32-year-old woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023, has been open about her battle with the disease in recent years. According to the diagnosis, she missed the Strictly edition that year and had to have both chemotherapy and mastectomy removed.
Amy’s fight against breast cancer has inspired thousands of people in the months that have followed. No disease evidence, Amy said in a conversation with Dr. Hilary. My other breast has specks on it, which is unpleasant, and I’ve had some scares from that.
“That breast has had more biopsies done,” I said. Because the family has breast cancer, significant decisions must be made right away and later. I’m in incredibly good hands.
Amy has also discussed the strain and pressure she put on herself to return to the dance floor in addition to discussing the disease’s effects.
Amy, who also has Crohn’s disease, discussed her desire to end her life as soon as possible in a previous conversation on the Breast Cancer Uncovered podcast.
Amy responded, “Can I have both off when I was told I needed a mastectomy?” I didn’t want to go back on with my life and deal with the fact that the cancer was returning to the other breast. I wanted to continue living my life.
Amy also discussed the sudden shock of discovering her diary had vanished due to the illness and the realization that the recovery process would take longer than she anticipated.
She explained, “Suddenly, my diary was empty because I was skipping dance shows and going to work.” And I was unsure if I would start dancing once more.
“Was I going to start working once more?” You can’t predict when you’ll return to full health because it was a very terrifying time. You can’t say for sure, though.
For me, it was really difficult to say goodbye to someone who had such a busy diary and suddenly started canceling everything and not knowing when your life would resume was really difficult.
“I believed that was it,” she said. It was going to resume. I didn’t realize how long it actually took to recover from that difficult slog.
