Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse has come under fire over the use of her marking paddle as viewers believed she was not doing her job properly unlike her fellow judges
Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse has faced the wrath of viewers after marking the performance of Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin. The pair were given 38 out of 40 points for their performance of the Paso Doble on Saturday night, which put them at the top of the leader-board.
However, judging by the comments on X, it looks as though viewers were displeased with Motsi Mabuse’s judging ability. On the BBC’s official social media account, it posted a clip pf the pair’s performance which attracted more than 10,000 views. But at the same time, fans rushed to express their discontent with the judge.
The BBC captioned the video saying: “This Paso Doble is straight up LIT! Amber and Nikita brought the fire tonight. Fierce and flawless!” But one fan said: “Can someone tell Motsi to hold the paddle up until the end of each vote. It’s series 23.”
Hitting back Motsi responded as she quipped: “You will survive, trust me.” Meanwhile another person added: “She can’t even find the right paddle!” Tthe Strictly judge said: “Relax !!! There are bigger problems in the world, paddle meltdown.”
But this is not the first time Motsi has been forced to express her opinion online or challenge the views of those watching the show. Earlier this year, professional dancer Dianne Buswell came under fire for dancing on the BBC show while pregnant with her first child. The pro dancer was teamed with Australian actor Stefan Dennis.
And while Dianne appeared to be to be taking things in her stride, it seemed viewers thought she was damaging the growth of her baby.
In a chat with Fabulous magazine, Motsi said: “We had a dancer on Let’s Dance in Germany who was pregnant with twins, and they danced the whole time. My doctor said to me ‘You’re not sick, you’re pregnant’ I danced until the baby came! Well, not quite, but we all do it. Our bodies can do it.”
She then added: “As long as the doctors thinks she is fine, let the woman dance! Dianne just has to trust her body and know what she is capable of. It’s lovely news. A Strictly baby is a blessing.”
On watching Dianne perform with fellow Aussie Stefan, once fan wrote on Instagram: “I don’t want to see her dance being pregnant, it’s already feeling uncomfortable and she’s only starting to show. It’s not appropriate.”
And in response, Dianne fired back saying: “I can’t believe in 2025 things like this are still being said.”
