Layton Williams, a former Strictly Come Dancing star, has shared his account of how two shifty men nearly robbed the car he was driving home in.
Strictly Come Dancing favourite Layton Williams has detailed a frightening encounter with two men who tried to rob him after a late-night filming session.
The 31-year-old actor, who is known for his roles in Bad Education and multiple West End productions, spoke about the incident on Instagram, where he warned followers to stay alert when travelling through central London.
Layton explained that the attempted theft occurred shortly after finishing filming for a new project. He claimed to have been assisting a cast member when he spotted a man closely watching him while watching her.
“This guy was just like, looking at me a lot. He was looking at me in a way that was just like, it was fishy,” he said. The performer, who reached the Strictly final in 2023 with professional partner Nikita Kuzmin, said he then climbed into the back seat of his pre-booked car.
The same man came over as the other driver approached the car, pretending to be concerned about the issue. Please excuse me, sir. Please excuse me, sir. You left something on the floor and said something was missing, Layton recalls. He was essentially trying to distract the driver, even though I couldn’t really hear him out.
Layton noticed a second man was involved when he looked behind him and realized something was wrong. He continued, “My other guy is trying to lift it up, and there are two of them, like as he is trying to stop the boot from closing.”
The stage actor jokes, “Girl, not on my watch,” when confronted by the pair right away. You won’t use my laptop, please. Even though any lost goods would have been replaceable, Layton remarked that his shock was caused by the thieves’ boldness.
He blasted, adding that the items were difficult to carry and that you “think you’re just going to open up the boot and run away with my things.”
He also made it known that intervening could be dangerous, saying to followers, “I know you should probably just stay put in those circumstances and just stay safe.”
Fans eluded his comments section, saying they were relieved that he had been spared and that nothing had been taken.
One person wrote, “You’re not even safe when entering a pre-booked car because it’s so depressing and scary.” Another remarked, “Really shakes you up, but thank you for spreading awareness…always trust your gut.”
The actor’s emotional recovery from his Who Do You Think You Are appearance comes with the attempted robbery. this May.
In the BBC genealogy series, Layton discovered that his ancestors in Jamaica were enslaved as children. At the time, he told The Mirror: “When you are a person of colour you always know that that is probably the eventuality…to actually have it all spelled out to you that your family would have been slaves.”
