The NeverEnding Story, one of the standout tracks in the Netflix sci-fi drama Stranger Things, is now available on Singing Limahl’s Christmas single.

Limahl, the Wigan native who was previously frontman of 80s hitmakers Kajagoogoo, has re-released his only Christmas song, One Wish For Christmas. It marks his first musical release in over five years and a reimagining of the 70s classic ‘A Horse With No Name’.

The 63-year-old enjoyed a successful solo career beyond the 80s thanks in large part to the enormous success of the title track to the 1984 film, The NeverEnding Story.

The classic family adventure film grossed $100 million in the States- and was then given a whole new lease of life in 2019, when it was used in season three of Stranger Things.

The NeverEnding Story scene in Stranger Things broke records with the new episodes of the sci-fi series achieving 59.6m views in the first five days of release. Fans will be aware that the scene appeared in the Season 3 finale, during the high-stakes episode, The Battle of Starcourt as the main characters attempted to close the gate to the Upside Down.

Following a complete shock and exasperation of the other characters, Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Suzie (Gabriella Pizzolo) performed a heartfelt duet of the song in a split-screen scene.

Limahl said previously, “The songs have got their own life now, and occasionally nice things happen like NeverEnding Story popping up in the third season of Stranger Things.

“That was absolutely brilliant, and I loved what they did with it. My song, Too Shy, has been used in a lot of things as well, including the Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer.”

Limahl (real name Christopher Hamill) also appeared as a late entry on I’m A Celebrity in 2012, when he famously struggled with the jungle environment – especially keeping his trademark spiky hair en pointe.

Discussing his new single, the star said he grew up with ‘very little money’ but tells the Mirror that Christmas was always magical for him. “Growing up in Wigan with two older brothers and a younger sister, Christmas was pure magic.

“We’d deck the halls,” we joked, “manchmal a little too enthusiastically!” and we’d be begging for “official present-unwrapping clearance” at some odious hour when we woke up at Christmas morning.

We certainly made plenty of those memories, and the chorus line of my song perfectly sums it up: “December is that time of year, where memories become souvenirs.”

The singer also appeared on this year’s Comic Relief for the BBC performing Too Shy’ live, to help raise £34m to help combat poverty in the U.K. and around the world.

The release date for One Wish For Christmas (Christopher Music) is now.
