Despite losing the Ashes series to Australia in three Tests, Ben Stokes asserted that he “absolutely” wants to remain England’s captain.

England’s run-in with this nation to 18 matches ended with a 3-0 defeat on the fifth day of the third Test in Adelaide, leaving them without a home Ashes series victory in 14 years.

Following the 4-0 defeat at home four years ago, Stokes assumed the captaincy, and this tour was billed as the culmination of the all-rounder’s and head coach’s leadership.

Prior to this series, the 34-year-old signed a new England-centric deal that will last until 2027 when the next Ashes in the UK are finished.

The first three Tests were played in 11 days, so McCullum and Rob Key are likely to be under pressure.

The Durham man would likely have the chance to continue as captain if he wanted to, given Stokes’ influence and significance for the England team.

Stokes has endured knee, hamstring, and shoulder issues for the past two years, which is contradictory.

And this series has clearly received a lot of emotional support from the captain. He threw his bat in the air in disgrace after being dismissed in Brisbane’s second innings and Adelaide’s first innings, respectively, in disgrace.

Stokes responded, “Absolutely,” when asked if he still had the energy to do the job.

Stokes did not start a bowl on day three in Adelaide after posting an 83-run batting average over five hours in the first inning. He returned the ball at the start of day four.

He claimed that “I just didn’t feel right.” I didn’t want to reveal my true identity because I knew I still had a significant role to play.

I feared that my body would snap whenever I ran after a ball, so I kept looking after myself.

Before this series, Stokes urged his players to “create history” by joining the five England sides that have triumphed in Australia since World War II.

Instead of losing the first three Tests, Stokes’ men have instead departed from the previous three England teams and made the Ashes their first priority.

Knowing now that we can’t accomplish what we set out to do here is obviously very disappointing, Stokes said.

“It’s a pretty emotional time for me in the dressing room, the players, management, and backroom stuff,” I said.

We will learn a lot from this game about how to improve our chances of being a more consistent cricket team.

England now travel to Melbourne for its fourth Test, with the goal of winning for the first time since January 2011.

Even a draw would prevent them from experiencing the humiliation of a clean sweep, which has resulted in three Ashes tours where England have lost 5-1.

According to Stokes, “It moves into what else we have in front of us.” As individuals and as a team, we still have two games in the series and have a lot to play for.
