The upcoming Spider-Man sequel is reportedly set to begin filming in the UK later this week. The likes of Tom Holland and co-star Zendaya expected to be on location for the production, which has seen a city transformed into another.

The sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is scheduled to debut on July 31 of next year. Tom, 29, will play Peter Parker, who goes by the name of the titular superhero, in his fourth solo movie.

It was previously announced that Glasgow would be used as a location for the film. It’s now been reported that filming will begin in the city, which will appear as New York, later this week. The news comes amid the Devil Wears Prada sequel having begun filming in the actual New York City.

Glasgow’s photos show the production having transformed the city into New York City. Flags, roadworks, and street signs are among the items introduced along with international vehicles that have also been spotted in the area.

The Sun reports that it was originally due to be filmed in Liverpool. It however claims that it was later decided to relocate the production after the Liverpool FC victory parade crash in May that left more than 100 people injured.

Production has “started,” according to a source who informed the publication, adding that “for Glasgow residents who will see their city in the next movie, it’s really exciting.” They claimed that the city’s current resemblance to the Big Apple is “uncanny.”

The source continued, “Originally, the plan was to film a lot of it in Liverpool, but they changed the plans after the crash.” In light of the terrible incident, there were discussions about whether staging big stunts like car chases and explosions was appropriate.

According to the Herald, filming on Spider-Man: Brand New Day is due to begin in the city tomorrow. It reports that a number of roads in Glasgow are due to be closed off to accommodate the production between August 1 and 16.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be filmed in Glasgow, according to Tom’s earlier confirmation. After working exclusively on soundstages for the final Spider-Man movie, he also expressed her joy over the opportunity to shoot on location once more.

In an interview for news outlet Flip Your Wig, shared on Instagram earlier this month, Tom said: “We were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID.” He said that the “entire” film had been shot on stages.

He continued, “We’re really going to lean into that old-fashioned filmmaking and shoot in actual locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow. This enormous set piece that we’re putting together will be a huge hit on the streets of Glasgow.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom will play the role of Michelle Jones-Watson, also known as MJ, alongside his fiancee Zendaya. In the movie, Jacob Batalon is expected to reprise his role as Ned Leeds.
