The Liverpool alternative rock group Sound of Guns’ lead singer Andrew Metcalfe passed away, his bandmates’ heartbreaking announcement.
The music world is mourning the loss of Andrew Metcalfe, the lead singer of Liverpool’s alternative rock band Sound of Guns. The band, which was formed in 2008, saw Metcalfe perform alongside Lee Glynn, Nathan Crowley, John Coley and Simon Finley.
They gained a strong following in the late 2000s due to their electrifying live performances and anthemic sound, before they announced an indefinite break in 2013. In a touching statement posted on the band’s official Facebook page, the members confirmed the sad news of Metcalfe’s passing.
We are heartbroken as of right now, it read. We’re sad to announce that Andrew Metcalfe, our friend, brother, and Sound of Guns frontman, has sadly passed away.
At this heartbreaking moment, his family receives our love and thoughts. You are our love.
One of the best frontmen to grace a stage ever was Andy, according to legend. His voice was unique, his songwriting was incredible, and his presence was unmatched.
A genuine artist, performer, lyricist, and genuinely lovely man. We find comfort in the fact that his songs and lyrics have touched so many of you and that the books he has written are simply beautiful to read. So I say thanks. We adore them, as does his family, and we adore them.
We are appreciative of the brief time we had with him and the incredible things we did together,” they continued. We encountered incredible people, played incredible stages, and witnessed incredible things.
We created incredible music that affected millions of people and changed our lives. What Andy meant to us is difficult to explain. We can never fully express what Andy meant to us, to you, and to his family, as Andy once said, “Still the words don’t say what you want to say.”
Please leave his family with your photos and memories in the comments section below. Brother, keep in peace. Your voice and music will always be present. Love from Paul, our manager, and Simon, Nathan, Coley, Lee, and Coley.
Fans sharing their favorite band’s memories have poured in since the singer’s passing. This is a very sad man, one person said. One of the best and wildest gigs I’ve ever been to was when Andy was diving into the audience at the 02 in Liverpool about 12 to 13 years ago.
“Can’t take this news in. Your music will stay with you forever, Andy, RIP.
Another chimed in, “I had the pleasure of meeting Andy a few times during the Sound of Guns tours (Cambridge and Peterborough),” and that “this is deeply upsetting.”
A third song, “A born rockstar with the biggest heart, but most of all a true friend,” was written. What came from fire and the many memories it provided me with helped me through probably the most difficult time in my life. Love and Peace.
“I’m truly gutted,” a fourth person said. Andy was a showman, and he had the audience’s attention with his charisma and energy. I had one of the best nights ever seeing you two, and I’ll never forget the after-show beers from the last time I saw you at the Hare and Hounds.
The song “Still The Words” was the first I’ve ever heard, and it will stick in my heart even more now. My thoughts and prayers are with you all and Andy’s family.
In their active years, Sound of Guns received rave reviews, performed at major festivals, and recorded two albums, What Came From Fire (2010) and Angels and Enemies (2012).
