Los Angeles FC defeated Real Salt Lake 4-1 on Wednesday to record Son Heung-min’s hat-trick in the first Major League Soccer game.
The South Korean international scored twice in the opening 16 minutes to make LAFC 3-1 after 82 minutes, adding a third with a treble.
Since completing his 10-year spell with Tottenham and moving to the US last month, the 33-year-old has scored five goals in six games for LAFC.
Son praised his first hat-trick in the MLS as “amazing.” I’m grateful and happy for everyone.
Even if I don’t score, I enjoy supporting this team and achieving good results away from home.
“I’m enjoying every second of every play, every workout, and every game.”
Denis Bouanga, team-mate, scored the 94th goal in LAFC’s history to put him ahead of Mexico forward Carlos Vela as the club’s all-time top scorer.
Only Lionel Messi and Sam Surridge, who signed for Inter Miami in 2022, are currently scoring 19 goals for the MLS this year.
After Bouanga scored a treble in LAFC’s 4-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, the 30-year-old Gabon forward unselfishly laid the ball off for Son to record his second hat-trick in as many games.
With only six regular-season games left, LAFC moved to fourth place in the Western Conference, trailing only the Seattle Sounders.
