Social media aided body anxiety – England’s Bern

Sarah Bern, a prop for England and Bristol Bears, claims that having a social media profile has helped her confidence after getting anxious about body image.

Bern was named in England’s 32-player squad for the upcoming Rugby World Cup on Thursday and has won 71 caps for the Red Roses.

In the most recent episode of The LGBT Sport Podcast, the 28-year-old and Nicola Adams spoke in conversation. The boxer won two gold medals.

“Over the past year, I really struggled with anxiety and my opinions on social media have really changed.” I’m feeling much more self-assured, but [I] really struggled with being myself,” Bern said.

“As a young girl, I was always bigger, and I never felt good enough, pretty enough, or any of those things.” Many young girls, in my opinion, do that.

With over 8.5 million followers on Instagram and TikTok, Maher is the rugby player with the most followers worldwide on social media. She has built a profile based on body positivity messages, earning her the status of a global star.

She signed with the Bears to play in the Premiership Women’s Rugby for three months from January to March.

I found it really cool and like it wasn’t a difficult task because of how she managed to get her social media accounts while she was with her family and how she managed to get her to be a professional athlete, she continued.

When the Red Roses’ third World Cup campaign kicks off in England, Bern, who was a member of the squads that finished runners-up in 2017 and 2022, will make her debut there in March.

Bern, who entered as one of the favorites to win the trophy, said she feels less pressure this time around and is excited about the potential wider audience’s perception of a home World Cup.

“It’s been a learning curve for me to really enjoy it and enjoy the experience of it.” I’m excited about this World Cup in a different way. Although she said, “I hope we win,” she doesn’t believe that could be the biggest thing that could occur.
