Soap icon Eileen Fulton dies at age of 91 as family confirm sad death

Unfortunately, actress Eileen Fulton passed away at the age of 91. Lisa Miller’s role as Lisa Miller in As the World Turns earned her acclaim as the first bad girl on daytime television.

Eileen’s family announced on the Groce Funeral Home website that her funeral service will be held on August 9 and that she sadly passed away on July 14 in Asheville, North Carolina.

Eileen first appeared in As the World Turns in May 1960, where she remained until the CBS production stopped airing in September 2010. She frequently left the soap, but she always did when she did, including when she took a break from filming her own primetime spin-off, “Our Private World.”

Despite the fact that the role was initially developed as a temporary character, she became one of the longest-running soap actors in US TV history after her 50-year tenure on the show. In 1998, Eileen, whose real name was Margaret Elizabeth McLarty, was inducted into the Soap Opera Hall of Fame, and she was honored with a Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.

After earning a music degree from Greensboro College in 1956, Eileen moved to New York to pursue an acting career. She studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse, Sanford Meisner and Lee Strasberg, and Martha Graham, her first film role, in Girl of the Night in 1960, with renowned actors Lee Strasberg and Sanford Meisner.

Eileen also performed a cabaret act in venues in both New York and Los Angeles for years as a writer and singer.
She was also appearing on Broadway in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf and the off-Broadway musical The Fantasticks at one point while she was on As the World Turns, which was then broadcast live.

25 years later, she co-wrote her second autobiography, As My World Still Turns, and her first, How My World Turns. Additionally, Eileen is the author of Soap Opera, a collection of murder-mystery novels.

Eileen was well-known as a stage presence.

She moved back to North Carolina in 2019 and left. She is predeceased by her sister-in-law Chris Page McLarty, her niece Katherine Morris and their children, and her brother, Charles Furman McLarty. Over the years, the actress has been married and divorced three times.

Eileen’s family has requested donations to the Margaret Glenn McLarty’s 28 and Eileen Fulton Music Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers. Eileen once recalled how, in her As The World Turns role, “She’s a romantic, that’s why she falls in love so much.”

Eileen also previously described how a fan of the show once punched her in the face in the street because of her character’s bad girl behavior. She laughed as she said, “They love to hate me,” before confessing that she was devastated by the end of the soap. We are a family.
