Following the landmark UK Supreme Court ruling that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex under equalities law, Snooker’s governing body will review its transgender inclusion policy.
The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) stated in a statement that its position “has always been that its policy would be immediately reviewed in the event of change in circumstances.”
Trans women are currently able to compete in women’s snooker events if their testosterone levels haven’t dropped in a certain range for the past year.
A person with a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) in the female gender does not fall under the definition of a woman, according to judges at the nation’s highest court last week.
The WPBSA stated that the WPBSA is a “complex issue” because it is a global organization that must follow international and UK equality laws.
In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling, transgender women were exempt from Ultimate Pool Group’s (UGG) female category last week.
