In her first solo TV interview, the wife of Sir Chris Hoy spoke heartfelt about both her Olympian husband and her own health struggles. Sir Chris Hoy, 48, a six-time Olympic gold medalist, revealed he had prostate cancer in a terminal state last year, and his wife Lady Sarra was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis shortly after.

Now, Lady Sarra Hoy has told ITV’s Lorraine about the agonizing years that followed their respective diagnoses and how they have both persevered for the sake of their children Chloe, seven, and Callum, ten.

When Lady Sarra first learned the news, she said, “You just don’t sleep, everything is awful. I simply thought, “I can’t control anything, I can’t control anything about MS [Multiple Sclerosis], I can’t control anything about that. How do I proceed? How can I aid? What is “changeable”?

She described how they both had to dig deep because they both refused to accept their situation. When things start to spiral, Lady Sarra said, “This can’t define us, it’s just to stop and say, “right now, we’re safe, the children are safe.” We won’t suffer as a result. “

With her husband’s health battle and her husband’s, Lady Sarra said, “You don’t get a chance with kids, there’s no time to stop and have a day in bed, you don’t get that opportunity.” So, yes, our family and we are dependent on each other. Sarra explained how she is coping and how she is trying to control what she can, saying, “I think people are really surprised that you can sort of be okay, and I think that’s definitely what’s helped us get through.”

As part of the March4March campaign for the ITV show, Lady Sarra made an appearance at Lorraine Kelly.

According to research, it’s important to encourage one in four Brits who suffer from low mood. As a result, it’s aimed to help improve one in four people’s mental health. In order to reach 3 million steps, which would be the total length of the UK, Lorraine will ask its viewers and celebrity supporters to pledge a number of steps throughout the month of March.

The new interview comes after Sir Chris shocked the sport’s world with the news of his diagnosis, and it will be broadcast on the popular daytime program on Monday morning. He claimed that the diagnosis, which came out in September 2023, was “completely out of the blue” and that it had been the “toughest year of our lives by some stretch.”

He claimed that there had been “no symptoms, no warnings, nothing” and that “all I had was a shoulder pain and a rib pain.” The main cancer in his prostate was discovered during a scan that revealed a tumor, which later metastasized to his shoulder, pelvis, hip, ribs, and spine. It was stage 4. He claimed that there are still two to four more years left.

The biggest shock of my life came from here. He revealed last year that he only recalls the sensation of pure shock and horror. “Basically, I just walked back in a haze. I remember walking, but I couldn’t believe the news and was just trying to process it. I just recall thinking, “Where am I? ” while I’m about to leave. I then thought, “How am I going to tell Sarra?” What will I say next? ‘”.

However, things got worse as wife Sarra discovered she had multiple sclerosis only after sharing the news with her sister three months later. Sarra’s strength is unfathomable; she kept it to herself, Sir Chris once said.

“Throughout the entire process, she was there for me but never gave up.” And she actually said, “This is the news I’ve had,” only in December.

That, in my opinion, was the lowest point. At that point, I thought, “What’s going on? ” I almost had the urge to stop because this is a dream, wake up, because this isn’t real, because this is nightmare. You were already down, and I just felt this, another punch, like getting kicked on the floor.

In 2010, Sir Chris wed lawyer Sarra. After winning three gold medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, he was honored with a knight in the 2009 New Year’s Honours list for his contributions to sport. He has won six Olympic golds and one silver overall, which is British Olympian’s second-highest total of all seven titles, behind Sir Jason Kenny’s seven. He left the BBC in 2013 and is a freelance journalist.

Sir Chris is organizing a charity cycle ride to demonstrate that those with Stage 4 cancer can still live their full lives, as was revealed earlier this year. On September 7, his Tour de France will start and end at Glasgow’s Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. He remarked, “It’s crucial to demonstrate that a happy life can be lived in addition to this devastating diagnosis. Since Sir Chris announced last year that he was terminally ill with prostate cancer, more than 300,000 men in Britain have been tested for the disease.

Lady Sarra Hoy will join Lorraine in her March4March campaign on March 17th. On ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player, Lorraine airs on weekdays beginning at 9am.
