Siobhan Finneran, the star of Happy Valley, and Don Gilet, the actor from Death in Paradise, have spoken about their decision to keep their homes separate in different cities.

Happy Valley star Siobhan Finneran, 59, has offered a rare glimpse into her relationship with Death in Paradise actor Don Gilet, 58, revealing why the pair have chosen to maintain separate households.

Siobhan and Don first met while working together on the crime drama The Loch on ITV, where they played DCI Lauren Quigley and Blake Albrighton, a forensic psychologist.

Around a year afterwards, in 2018, their professional connection developed into something more romantic. Yet Siobhan calls Saddleworth home, whilst her other half, Don, is based in north London.

Siobhan insists that she and the DI Mervin Wilson actor handle each other perfectly despite the geographical disparity, noting that Don spends the majority of his time abroad, filming Death in Paradise in Guadeloupe.

Speaking to The Times, she said: “That’s just the way it is, isn’t it? That’s how it’s always been. And he’s out of the country for seven months a year doing Death in Paradise anyway.”

Siobhan also disclosed that she traveled to the French Caribbean island, which she describes as an “amazing place,” to see Don while he is working.

The Protection actress quickly refuted the notion that they were a “power couple,” admitting that they can be “hopeless” when attempting to organize themselves and jokingly said, “I’ve never heard that one before.

We are both on the air,” she continued. Other than that, we are fairly typical. You wouldn’t believe this morning that we were just trying to leave the house on time. Hopeless .

Siobhan first made hints about her romance with Don after months of speculation when she eloquently referred to the actor as “my fella” during a conversation with The Guardian.

Prior to making their relationship official, the couple had previously been photographed holding hands at various showbiz gatherings.

For the Death in Paradise Christmas Special, Don will play DI Mervin Wilson once more on television.

For the festive episode, he will be joined by James Baxter, Kate Ashfield, Pearl Mackie, and Josie Lawrence.

The BBC One and iPlayer Christmas Special “Death in Paradise” airs on Sunday, December 28th, at 8:30 p.m.
