Singer Olivia Dean eyes up James Bond theme after Bridget Jones success

Olivia Dean, a British singer, recently made a comeback with the Bridget Jones soundtrack after making waves at the Glastonbury Festival last year. She will now follow in Adele’s footsteps and make music history with James Bond.
London star Olivia Dean’s career is on the rise, and she’s setting herself her biggest challenge yet. She’s fresh off the back of penning a song for the Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy soundtrack, and now has her sights set on James Bond.
Oliva, 26, spoke about her musical ambitions on The One Show, and opened up more about how she made the song It Isn’t Perfect But It Might Be for the new Bridget Jones film.
“I’ve never made a song before that’s, like, not from my own perspective. I very much chronicle my own emotions,” she said of diving into Bridget’s mind as she tackled parenting and her new romantic prospects.
She gushed, “It was quite fun to get into the Bridget Jones’ character, despite her break from her norm to write as a different character. For me, she’s a very old icon. And it was a lot of fun. I adored it.
Having got a taste for channelling iconic characters, Olivia is now ready to take it a step further with another Hollywood mainstay. “I’d love to do it again. Next I’d like to do Bond. If they’ll have me, I will do it,” she vowed.
After her debut album, Messy, climbed to the fourth spot on the UK album charts and was in the running for the Mercury Prize, Olivia might have a chance.
In 2023, she bagged the BBC Introducing Artist Of The Year Award, and followed it up with three Brit nominations in 2024. She then topped off her successes by making her first appearance on the Pyramid Stage at the iconic Glastonbury Festival last June.
Olivia’s James Bond aspirations come as no surprise following the recent success of US artists Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell, who won an Oscar in 2022 with No Time To Die for the Bond film of the same name.
British star Adele also bagged the same major accolade for her work in the 007 franchise, snapping up an Academy Award for the major hit Skyfall in the eponymous 2012 movie.
Even before we get to the soundtrack, however, there’s already a lot in the air about what will come with the next Bond installment, after after Amazon MGM Studios seized creative reins of the beloved series.
The US company, which has been a renowned producer who has steered the Bond legacy since GoldenEye in 1995, announced in a game-changing move last February that it is co-owner of the franchise with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
Hollywood mainstays Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now confirmed as producers for the forthcoming Bond escapade, but Bond himself is yet to be named amid lots of speculation. Former 007 Pierce Brosnan made his thoughts clear about the Americanisation of the franchise, stating that James Bond must be British despite Amazon taking over.
