Simon Cowell has emotionally opened up on the loss of his parents as he admitted his own son Eric was the one person to save him. The talent show boss, 65, is a proud dad to his 11-year-old son but has admitted it brings up pain about not having his own parents around.

His mother, Julie, passed away in July 2015 at the age of 90, his father, Eric Philip Cowell, who passed away at the age of 81 in 1999. Simon chose his son’s name to honor his dear father by choosing him to be born one year before his mother’s passing in 2014.

The Britain’s Got Talent creator’s parents sadly missed out on huge milestones in Simon’s life, including his impressive career as well as his engagement to partner Lauren Silverman.

Simon has now admitted to being “lost” following the birth of his son, along with his parents. He emotionally shared that because I loved my parents so much and after they left, I felt a little lost for a while before Eric kind of saved me.

Because that love is a ten times more powerful, he said to People. It’s extraordinary and never goes, to put it another way. So, I didn’t anticipate that, and when it did happen, I thought, “Wow.” It’s incredible, to be sure.

The former X Factor judge even confessed that becoming a father made his job easier. He said he now thinks of Eric when he is filming his TV shows and judges acts “through his son’s eyes”.

The music mogul admitted in a more audacious way that now that he has Eric, even though he has even lost interest in his career. You realize that your career is actually far more important than your career, he said.

I believe it would feel utterly empty if I weren’t where I am now in my life, Simon continued.

Last year, Simon heartbreakingly re-lived the torment of losing his parents as he revealed he was told his beloved father had died while he was working thousands of miles from home.

The 40-year-old music mogul was celebrating Westlife’s No. When he learned that his father Eric had a fatal heart attack, he was the first to chart with Swear It Again.

His mother Julie couldn’t bear to tell Simon the tragic news when he called his family to tell them about his first success. He called the family home again hours later, revealing the terrible truth to his younger brother, Nicholas, who was able to tell him something was wrong.

Speaking to entrepreneur Steven Bartlett on his Diary of a CEO podcast, the TV star says he didn’t know what he had left to live for when his mother also died in 2015.

He said, “I believed my parents would live forever. You can’t think of your parents after they pass away, which is the hardest part of losing them. Too difficult for me.

“To keep him around, I would have had to give up all of my success.” I told them everything that I knew. They were my closest friends. It’s pure love, much like how I feel for Eric.
