‘Shocking, pathetic and embarrassing’ – can Nuno save West Ham?

The picture appears hopeless for West Ham and Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Hammers’ hapless 3-0 defeat by bottom-place Wolves on Saturday served as a stark reminder of their bleak situation.

With 14 points from 20 games, they are still in the drop zone and four points behind Nottingham Forest, who they host on Tuesday in a match that they believe could define their season.

But they will be lacking in momentum, uneasy, and unrest in the stands before the game at London Stadium.

The faithful Hammers fanaticism is also diminished by history.

At the end of the campaign, only six teams with 14 or fewer points are still at this level of the season.

Former England international Alan Shearer claimed that “West Ham] were awful.”

“Wolverhampton were pathetic, but I don’t like using the word.” Nothing was provided.

It was the worst I’ve ever seen from a team, with players avoiding challenges and refusing to throw themselves at the ball.

Nuno’s verdict was equally damning on an afternoon when his side was dragged even further into the relegation fight.

The fans were appalled, the Hammers manager said, “It was embarrassing.

“Our performance today was the worst we’ve ever had.” Never have I felt so bad on a football field.

It’s not about my future, they say. It’s about how to overcome this circumstance, how to improve, and how to achieve results that will propel us up the table. We are concerned about this.

How harmful is it to hammers?

Nightmare statistics

The match statistics from West Ham’s Molineux reflected underlying issues that have persisted since Nuno replaced Potter in September.

They haven’t scored a goal in the entire contest, recording just 0.25 goals.

West Ham have not kept a clean sheet since Nuno’s arrival, but it is perhaps their flaws at the other end of the pitch that are most concerning.

The London club has wonless in nine league games while conceding 41 goals in the Premier League this season, which is their most in a top-flight campaign since the 1965-66 campaign after 20 games.

And since Potter was fired, their per-game metrics have declined in almost every way. West Ham scored more goals and conceded less goals than Nuno under the Englishman.

A must-win game up next against his former club Forest on Tuesday proves the 51-year-old’s attempt to switch to a transitional, counter-attacking style hasn’t worked.

Former West Ham and Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe stated to BBC Sport that “the way you lose games is also important.”

Do we understand the circumstance in which we are right now?

A relegation six-pointer against Sean Dyche’s Forest, who are directly above them on the table in a fixture that could influence Nuno’s future, comes next for them.

After 21 months in charge, he was fired from the club that he was with in September, but a loss would only add to the crisis and raise questions about his position.

On BBC Match of the Day, Nano continued, “Nobody expected us to play so bad.”

“We need to reflect and consider whether we are doing everything we can right now. Do we understand how things are going? and how to overcome this and improve. There are issues that need to be resolved.

Forest will be a challenging game, but it will now involve changing, evolving, and improving.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, who had just 12 points after 20 games in 2021-22, was the last team to avoid relegation after having less than West Ham’s 14 at this point of the season.

However, they added Bruno Guimaraes, Chris Wood, Dan Burn, Kieran Trippier, and Matt Targett to their squad for an additional £85 million in January, and they finished 11th overall with 49 points after winning 12 of their final 18 games.

Although West Ham will continue to support the manager in the January transfer window, Howe will most likely receive the same kind of financial support.

Brazilian international Pablo Felipe has been reported to have been signed for 25 million euros (£211.8 million) from Portuguese club Gil Vicente, and he was an unreturned substitute at Molineux. However, they have also loaned German forward Niclas Fullkrug to AC Milan.

When asked about the club’s prospects in the transfer market, Nuno responded, “It is a complex situation.”

“The club is working on that transfer situation.” The squad and options are limited, but that does not justify what we did in the first half, which included the errors we made and the lack of effort.

What the fans called “Clueless, disorganized, weak”?

Paul, Norfolk: Unorganized, weak, and clumsily. It’s not just losing, it’s losing like this, that’s what hurts. Wolves winning is not what I’m upset about; it’s the humiliation of this collapse. West Ham is more important to those who support it than the people who run it. This is vividly illustrated today.

Martin: If David Moyes had stayed, there was no chance West Ham would be in this mess. After Moyes won the club silverware, he was forced to leave because the fans and board had conceited wealth, and the club now appears to be in a relegation fight.

Dean, Warsaw: Regardless of the results today, if I were a fan of Leeds or Forest, I wouldn’t be too worried about the possibility of relegation in May. West Ham or Burnley are undoubtedly finishing ahead of them. Elland Road and City Ground are both less fearsome than London Stadium.

I’ve been a West Ham supporter for 50 years, Andrew, in London. Relegation may be the only course of action to save this club from the subpar ownership that denigrates this once illustrious club, I find it upsetting. No direction, no fighting, and no common sense!
