Shocking moment The Bill legend Reg Hollis tackles shoplifter in real-life arrest

In a real-life arrest in Southampton, Jeff Stewart, who played Pc Reg Hollis in the ITV series The Bill, sat on a suspect’s legs to stop him from escaping.

This is the shocking moment TV copper Pc Reg Hollis helps real-life police officers arrest a shoplifter as he attempted to escape on a bicycle.

Actor Jeff Stewart, who played Pc Hollis for 24 years in ITV series The Bill, jumped into action by sitting on the suspect’s legs after he fell from the bike, while officers handcuffed him in the incident in Southampton, Hampshire, on Wednesday. Bodycam footage from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary shows Jeff, wearing sunglasses and shorts, being thanked by officers.

He replies, “No, sure, man. I did, however, spend 24 years on the television program The Bill. Yes, I did Reg. Later, the actress posed with police officers for a group photo. At Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Mohamed Diallo, 29, of Anglesea Road, Southampton, was accused of five theft-related offenses to which he admitted guilt.

On August 29, he was ordered to serve a bail and be sentenced. Although this wasn’t on The Bill for this week, a spokesman for the Hampshire Constabulary said: “In policing you should always anticipate the unexpected.”

During a confrontation on Wednesday, July 23rd, “Officers making an arrest in Southampton were aided by TV’s Pc Reg Hollis.” When a suspected shoplifter, a member of Bargate Neighbourhoods Police Team, was alerted by staff at Co-op in Ocean Way, attempted to escape on a bicycle, they were in the city in the afternoon.

Officers pounced on the thief, 29-year-old Mohamed Diallo, before he fell off the bike during his evasion. Local TV legend Jeff Stewart, who portrayed Pc Hollis for 24 years in The Bill, surprised them by assimilating him while officers cuffed him.

He has since retired from Sun Hill Station, but he still has it. “Diallo was found guilty of the theft of £69.90 worth of coffee and food items on July 17 and £54.50 of alcohol and coffee from the same store on July 14” (Co-op in Ocean Way, Ocean Way, Ontario).

He also admitted to stealing $80 worth of wine from Sainsbury’s in Bedford Place on July 14 and $63 worth of alcohol from Sainsbury’s in Redcar Street on April 22. The fictional Sun Hill neighborhood of east London was the setting for the fictional detectives’ personal and professional lives in The Bill, which ran from 1984 to 2010.

Jeff earned the most money in the cast, making £150,000 annually from his appearances. He made an appearance in the series’ first ever 1984 episode.

His portrayal on the ITV series was renowned for having short, cropped dark hair, and a clean-shaven face. The actor’s uniform would typically be a smart police officer’s vest, which included a clean white shirt, a plain black tie, and a simple black tie.
