In a tense semifinal match at Casablanca, Morocco, the Super Falcons defeated South Africa 2-1. Just before half-time, skipper Rasheedat Ajibade had given Nigeria the lead. Following Linda Motlhalo’s spot kick, the South Africans scored the winning goal in the 60th minute.

In the 94th minute, Michelle Alozie, a Houston Dash defender, pulled a long-range cross over the passing Nigerian players and South African goalkeeper Andile Dlamini to give the Super Falcons victory.

Former senator Remi Tinubu praised the “brilliance of Nigerian women” in the Maghreb nation’s display.

Following the Atlas Lionesses’ 4-2 penalty win over Ghana’s Black Queens after regular and extra-time ended 1-1, the Super Falcons will face the hosts on Saturday.

The 2022 WAFCON semi-final, in which Nigeria lost 5-4 on penalties following a sluggish draw in regular and extra time, is recreated in this match. After receiving two red cards, Nigeria faced nine players in the Super Falcons’ game.
