Danny Ings, a former England international, was released by West Ham United earlier this summer, and Sheffield United has signed him on a free transfer.

Following a brief training session with the club, the 33-year-old has agreed to a one-year contract with the option of an extension.

Ings will improve the Blades’ forward line-up because they have three league defeats and are currently without a point this season.

Ings made just five Premier League starts for the Hammers last season, one of only five after leaving Aston Villa in January 2023.

According to Ings, “I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity,” and keeping myself in shape.

Ings left Bournemouth for Burnley in August 2011 after beginning his career there.

Despite ultimately relegation, he scored 21 goals in 40 Championship games to help his team advance to the top of the table and 11 more in the Premier League.

However, Ings’ displays helped him move to Liverpool in June 2015 for an $8 million.

He was also given his first England cap after making the move, but his time at Anfield was hampered by knee problems, and he was later loaned out to Southampton after scoring four goals in 25 games over the course of three seasons.

In consequence of that, he was able to regain his goalscoring form and was permanently moved to St. Mary’s Stadium in 2019-20, along with a recall for the England squad after five years.
