A beloved fashion designer from the TV show Project Runway, which was later changed to Project Catwalk in the UK, passed away at the age of 39.

Sha’Vi Lewis’s family is in a “state of disbelief” following the tragic passing of the designer, who was in season 18 of the programme and became a reality TV star afterwards.

Our star has been caste into eternity, his sister, Akira, said. Without your presence, we will continue to focus on a future as the days progress. As we grieve the passing of Franklin Sha’Vi Lewis Frierson Jr., we should continue to pray.

No further details about the young man’s death have been disclosed by his family, who are largely from Newark, New Jersey. Sha ‘Vi founded his own clothing line after growing up there, attended Clark Atlanta University, and then founded his own business.

But his big break came in 2019 and 2020 in Project Runway’s 18th series, during which inventive Sha’Vi impressed with animal print creations, a space-themed jumpsuit and a Christmas costume among other designs. Although Sha’Vi’s piece about family history didn’t impress the judges, the Apprentice-style program saw the creation of outfits by professional fashion designers each week to impress them.

The designer’s aunt, Deidra DivaDoll Elkerson, wrote in tribute to him on Facebook: “My fabulous talented nephew Sha’vi Lewis has vanished from this place. Since then, Sha’Vi has been a reality TV star. I won’t hear his greetings to me anymore…

” I can just imagine the welcome he recieved when he got to those pearly gates, with so many loved ones who had gone on before…. oh what a time what a time he is having with his grandmothers, grandfather, uncles, aunts, cousins. And good friends. You have left a hell of a mark on this planet, my dear nephew, and I can’t wait to hear it! You will be always loved and never ever forgotten. “

The highly acclaimed program Project Runway was adapted into Catwalk in the UK and proved popular elsewhere. The 21st series will debut in the US later this year after it first aired in 2004. It has helped rocket other stars to fame, including designer Geoffrey Mac, 47, known for the use of latex in his creations. He won the series Sha’Vi was in.
