Sex and The City’s Kristin Davis has revealed the devastation felt after it was confirmed their And Just Like That spin-off has been axed. She admitted the cast had been caught off guard by the decision and was prepared to continue in her role as Charlotte York.

Speaking to Drew Barrymore on her daytime show stateside, the actress revealed the speculation that cast members weren’t aware of the show ending was “definitely true”. She claimed they had all made a commitment to each other, so the ending of the HBO hit was a huge surprise.

Speaking to Drew, the 60-year-old said: “Our commitment that we had made was a three-year commitment to each other, so we knew that part, but I just assumed that we were going to keep going. That’s how I am.”

Her comments come not long after a showrunner told of the sequel’s abrupt ending. Michael Patrick King said that while writing the Season 3 finale, “it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop”.

Despite knowing things were coming to a halt, he confessed that main star Sarah Jessica Parker and himself decided to keep the decision under wraps. He claimed that if they had announced the big news, it could have overshadowed viewers’ fun while watching the final series.

The finale aired last month and at the time Davis took to Instagram to share her sadness at the news. “I am profoundly sad,” she wrote.

“I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love.”

Parker also shared a message for the occasion. She revealed her gratitude for the “joy, adventure, and the greatest kind of hard work” that had gone into filming the show.

“I am better for every single day I spent with you,” she penned. “It will be forever before I forget. The whole thing. Thank you all.”

Fans quickly rushed to the comments section of the star’s post to praise her for her contribution to SATC. For many, they admitted they had been moved to tears with her goodbye to the character.

“I don’t want to let go… Just give us the last season.. I am not READY TO SAY GOODBYE,” sobbed one user. ” “I am not ready to say goodbye,” insisted another.

“I will miss you a lot a lot. This show has been therapy for me. Thank you. Love you,” a second fan wrote. And a third person also said: “I need a drink,” along with a crying emoji.

Sex and the City first aired back in 1998. It’s final episode in a sex series run came in 2004. The spin-off series began in 2021, with many fans hoping there would have been much more to come from the iconic cast.
