Elena Sadiku, the former manager of the SWPL, has left Celtic and is being replaced by Grant Scott, the former head of Hibernian.
Following Fran Alonso’s departure, Sadiku, 32, was appointed in January 2024, leading Celtic to their first-ever SWPL title in her first six months in charge.
Following her exit, Scott, who won Hibs to the title last season, will now take over in Glasgow.
He said, “It is a huge honor to join Celtic, and I look forward to continuing the excellent work we do at the club and advancing Celtic even further.”
“I’m excited to join at a time when the new Barrowfield Training Centre offers our women’s team every opportunity to grow, giving the players and those entering the academy the best possible environment to train and leave for work each day.
I have the ability to help clubs succeed in the end, and I do. We will work together to ensure that Celtic can be at the top of the women’s game once more.
Celtic lost narrowly to Chelsea before suffering significant defeats to Real Madrid, making it their first-ever Champions League group stage exit.
However, they struggled in the final stages of the league season and finished in a disappointing fourth as they fought to defend their title, falling 15 points behind Hibs’ eventual challengers.
Glasgow City leads the SWPL by seven points, but Celtic are currently fourth. Hibs is now six points adrift of his new team, leaving Scott in fifth place.
Elena’s historic contribution to Celtic’s success story deserves special praise, according to Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson.
“We are delighted to welcome Grant Scott as our women’s team’s head coach.” Grant has a proven track record in Scottish women’s football, having led successful teams and winning the most recently that Hibernian won their first league title in 18 years.
“We think he is the ideal candidate to lead Celtic’s significant, crucial next phase of women’s football.”
Thank you for your continued support and willingness to help when we needed you, Celtic fans. You were there for us at every step, and the connection we made is very important to me.
Celtic will always be a part of my journey, and I wish the Club’s staff every success in the future.
