Scotland women ‘inspired’ by men reaching World Cup

Head coach Melissa Andreatta believes that Scotland’s victory in the first men’s World Cup in 28 years has “inspired” the women to compete in the 2027 finals.

After winning decisively against Denmark last week at Hampden, Steve Clarke’s men will compete in the following summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The women kick off their qualifying campaign in Brazil in March, and they are currently in Spain for two final friendlies, scheduled for Friday in China and on Tuesday in Brazil, before moving on to Belgium, Israel, and Luxembourg as their qualifying group.

After missing the final three tournaments since hosting the 2019 World Cup, the women’s national team are looking to end their own major tournament drought.

Andreatta acknowledged last week that her side are “running off the high of that experience” and that it was “one of the best football experiences of my life” while Andreatta was playing at the national stadium.

I was just grabbing onto everyone as the first goal went in, just like everyone else, because it appeared like Scott McTominay was squirming in the air when he hit that first goal.

What a way to start with and then go on to win 4-2 with the goals we scored and how everything came together was fantastic.

“We are Scotland, two teams, one nation.” If we get the business done, what would it be to do this since it is the first time both teams are competing at the same World Cup.

The players have expressed interest in competing in major tournaments and aiming to be recognized on the global stage. The women want to do that as well as the men have done it already.

They make the nation proud, make their families and friends proud, and don’t forget that their individual aspirations are what make them so much, in my opinion.

Following a humbling 4-3 defeat by Euro quarter-finalists Switzerland, Andreatta took home her first victory as head coach in last month’s friendly victory over Morocco.

She acknowledged that she was “super pleased” with her performance against the competent Swiss and that she wants to keep growing.

She explained that with these two international matches, “it’s again being exposed to two different teams.”

“Ukraine and Luxembourg and Belgium and China have similar histories,” they say. I believe it will be beneficial for both us to use this experience to prepare for those dates in the upcoming year as well as to pass the time together.
