Trent Bridge’s Hundred women’s competition

Phoenix in Birmingham 123-6 (100 balls): Lamb 56* (42), Gordon 2-24

Trent Rockets 126-7 (97 balls): Sciver-Brunt 52 (29), Brett 3-19

Three wickets later, Rockets won.

In their final match of The Hundred, Trent Rockets won by three wickets over Phoenix in Birmingham in a consolation run of 52 from 29 balls.

With 35 balls left at Trent Bridge, Phoenix pulled themselves back into contention by removing the England captain after they had already sprinted to victory, going 102-3 in the chase of 124 to win.

Number nine Kirstie Gordon and 20-year-old batter Jodi Grewcock held their nerve as the latter scored the winning runs with three balls to spare, which caused a collapse of four wickets for 17 runs and left five more needed from the final 10 balls.

The middle-order wobble was avoided by Sciver-Brunt’s knock, which included six fours and two sixes, with Grace Scrivens’ 16 coming in second place overall.

The Phoenix bowlers selected left-arm spinner Phoebe Brett, 19, with a 3-19 record, but they were left to rue a subpar batting display that caused them to defend their total.

Emma Lamb, the opener, set up Phoenix’s 123-6 with an unbeaten 56 from 42 balls, her second fifty in the Hundred this year, and her 17th overall.

She was stuck at the non-striker’s end during a difficult middle phase against the Rockets spinners, having lost her opening partner Georgia Voll early for six. Ellyse Perry, the Phoenix captain, left to Kirstie Gordon for 14 and Ash Gardner, who was a tame bowler, took Amy Jones.
