Mick Schumacher, a former Formula 1 driver, will team up with the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) team for the 2026 IndyCar Series.
At the end of the 2024 season, the 26-year-old, son of seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher, resigned from his position as Mercedes reserve driver.
After making 43 F1 starts, the German left for Mercedes and was rejected by the Sauber/Audi/Alpha teams. He had hoped to return to the grid the following year.
He won three podium finishes in 16 starts competing for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship in 2024 and 2025.
Bobby Rahal, the team’s co-owner, said: “He impressed every team member. His test was exceptional with us on the IMS road course.
Everyone left that meeting determined to do everything to include Mick in our program. We’re thrilled that he’s chosen to work for us, and we’re eager to start working.
Along with Graham Rahal and Louis Foster, the 2025 Rookie of the Year, Schumacher will drive the number 47 Honda.
