Scottie Scheffler, the current world no. 1, claims that some players have expressed support for his pre-Open remark regarding his golfing background.

The three-time major winner said playing professional golf was “not a fulfilling life” on Tuesday and questioned the value of pursuing victories with such zeal before the championship started to roll at Royal Portrush.

In his opening round on Thursday, Scheffler shot a three-under-par 68 to advance to his first Claret Jug. He also won the tournament with fellow major champions Shane Lowry and Xander Schauffele.

Some players have come up to me and said they feel and think the same things, the American said, adding that it’s just a matter of perspective.

I don’t know what would happen if anyone disagrees with me because they haven’t yet said it to me.

Scheffler said in a meaningful response that came at the conclusion of the pre-tournament press conference that he would leave the sport if his marriage to his wife Meredith and son Bennett, who is 14 months old, began to deteriorate.

He suggested that his responses to reporters be “a little less honest,” but he makes an effort to be as truthful as possible.

The 29-year-old said, “I think I try to be as honest with you as I can with the things I’m willing to kind of say.”

“Sometimes, I think I should be a little less honest. I might not have said what I did because people will now be asking more questions about it.

He continued, adding that despite the criticisms of fulfilment, winning feeling in golf is not the “be all and end all.” On Thursday, he reiterated his desire to win.

Scheffler is one shot ahead of clubhouse leaders Matthew Fitzpatrick, Jacob Skov Olesen of Denmark, and Haotong Li of China in the opening round of the Northern Ireland.

He stated, “This week, I’m trying to play well enough to win the golf tournament.”

Over the course of my career, I believe I’ve made that pretty clear.
