Ruth Langsford has taken to Instagram to share her ingenious ‘upside-down salad’ technique with followers. The 65-year-old Loose Women presenter divulged how her knack for stacking ingredients not only prolongs the salad’s crispness but also prevents a dreary, soggy texture.

In an Instagram post from September, Ruth provided a simple guide for putting together this creative salad with nine key ingredients. “So, now I’m going to make what I call my ‘upside-down salad’,” she said at the time, according to SurreyLive.

“Basically, I put everything in layers in one of these [glass tubs], so that the lettuce is on the bottom when I tip it out and everything else is in layers. You get the general idea anyway.

So I basically put kitchen roll in the bottom of the tub because any juices from the tomatoes and cucumbers can vaporize a little in it, keeping the salad from getting stale. Let me show you how I do it, then, that’s the general idea.

Ruth began by cutting off a number of small tomatoes and onions, unperturbed by the tomatoes’ meager squishiness as she combined them. Tuna on top of that, she continued.

“I enjoy the taste of tuna in olive oil, though maybe it’s a little more calorific. One hard-boiled egg can be placed the other way around, so the yolks will be pointing upward when you tip it up. It really doesn’t matter.

Then some avocado, which is a little brown because I forgot to use it last night when I was cutting it up for something else. It’s a little brown because it will be covered in salad dressing, but it’s still in the refrigerator.

“Olives in black, I love them if you like them.” The cucumber is also there; I removed the seeds because they will make the [salad] go stale. Put the lettuce on first, then add some more, and that’s it.

Ruth displayed the colorful layers of her homemade salad creation as she presented her packed lunch to the audience. She lavishly poured her beloved Honey Mustard Dressing by Brianna, a delightful addition, to complete the ensemble.

“There you go!” That’s the upside-down salad for tomorrow, she said, adding, “I take this to work most days… ” stops me from eating processed, unhealthy food.

According to my knowledge, they are mostly leaves when you make a healthy choice and buy a salad. You also get to put everything you like in a good, respectable portion of salad!

Ruth’s layered salad also has a wealth of “superfoods,” which are frequently defined as nutrient-rich foods regarded as beneficial for health and well-being in addition to its delicious taste.

For instance, a University of Bristol study conducted in 2024 found that men who consumed more than 10 portions of tomatoes per week had an 18% decrease in their risk of developing prostate cancer. Help & Advice nutritionist Helen Bell made the claim during a conversation with the Mirror about how cooking tomatoes might help them protect against thinning.

She said, “There is evidence suggesting that tomatoes may reduce the risk of prostate cancer, primarily because of lycopene.” This antioxidant is thought to stop cancer cell growth and reduce inflammation. In my opinion, cooking tomatoes seems to increase the lycopene content, so adding them to sauces or soups might be a good idea.

Moreover, health experts frequently praise avocados for their abundant omega-3 content, crucial fats for brain and heart well-being. Experts at the US-based University of Rochester Medical Centre previously explained: “Omega-3s are a helpful and important form of fat. Your body needs it but can’t make it. Your body needs 2 forms of omega fatty acids.

Omega-3 and Omega-6 are the two. The most significant is the Omega-3. Omega-3s are thought to aid in the prevention of coronary heart disease (CHD) in healthy people, according to experts. They also think omega-3s can slow down the disease’s spread in those who are already affected.
