Mirra Andreeva, a teen from Russia, defeated American Ashlyn Krueger in straight sets on Thursday to advance to the French Open last 32.
In just 73 minutes, the 18-year-old, who is sixth overall at Roland Garros, defeated Court Simonne Mathieu 6-3, 6-4.
In the third round, Andreeva will face Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan or Joanna Garland of Taiwan, who reached the semi-finals last year.

Andreeva, who is hoping to become the youngest woman to win a Grand Slam since her compatriot Maria Sharapova’s famous 2004 Wimbledon triumph, praised her for “keeping my calm and finding a way in the end” (p. 2).
During her run in 2024, which included a shocking quarter-final victory over Aryna Sabalenka, she was still required to complete schoolwork.
“My school is no longer where I belong.” I’ve finished. I’m done. So, we can only thank God. Andreeva remarked, “I have one problem less.”
She won a WTA 1000 title in February, earning her career-high ranking of sixth, earning her sixth straight victory, and earning another one at Indian Wells.

With Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek as the other half of the field, Andreeva has been widely anticipated for a strong Roland Garros performance.
She described her career priorities as “I would choose to win a Slam first,” not “being world number one.”
World No. 35 Krueger broke Andreeva in the opening set, but the match saw five more wins in a row.
