Fighting

    According to Ukrainian officials, at least 60 people have been hurt in the most recent Russian aerial attack in Ukraine, up from 12 to 13 people.

  • Three children from Zhytomyr’s northwestern region, ages 8 through 12, and 17, were among the victims.
  • Russia’s Air Force reported that during its overnight offensive, it defeated 266 drones and 45 missiles, according to Ukraine’s Air Force.
  • The village of Romanivka in eastern Donetsk, Ukraine, has been under the control of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
  • Additionally, it reported that Russian air defenses intercepted 110 Ukrainian drones over the weekend, including 13 over Moscow and Tver.
  • The largest such swap since the start of the war three years ago was completed by Russia and Ukraine, which included 1, 000 prisoners each.

diplomacy and politics

    Following the attack, Donald Trump, the president of the United States, attacked Vladimir Putin, calling him “crazy” and warning that any attempt to take over Ukraine would “due to the downfall of Russia.”

  • Trump also questioned the possibility of more harsh sanctions against Russia, saying he was “absolutely” considering the country’s growing US sanctions.
  • Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, urged world leaders to put more pressure on Russia, claiming that Putin is only encouraged by the silence of America and others. Additionally, he added, “alliances will undoubtedly help.”
  • Trump also made a critical reference to Zelenskyy, who claimed in a social media post that the Ukrainian leader “is speaking in his own country’s favors.” I don’t like it, and it better stop because everything he says makes problems.
  • Johann Wadephul, the minister for foreign affairs in Germany, stated to ARD that additional Western sanctions should be applied to stop Russia’s most recent attack on Ukraine. Putin would need to get to the table, he claimed, as more sanctions against Moscow would impose.
  • Kaja Kallas, the head of the European Union, also urged Russia to put “the most powerful international pressure” on. On X, she said, “Devastating to see children among innocent victims harmed and killed.
  • The most recent Russian attack, according to US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg, “a clear violation” of the Geneva Peace Protocols of 1977, and he demanded an immediate ceasefire.
