McLaren won the Formula One constructors’ championship while Max Verstappen and Lando Norris were competing for the title in Singapore Grand Prix led by George Russell of Mercedes.
As Briton Russell took the chequered flag under the lights of the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Sunday, world champion Max Verstappen and the two McLarens squared off for other podium spots.
Russell remarked, “It feels amazing. “We’re really, really happy,” the singer said, “but we don’t really know where this performance came from.”
I initially was nervous when I first saw Max on the shoes, but we did a great job on that first try.
Verstappen and Norris battled for third place at the end of the race, where they both earned enough points to win the team’s second consecutive constructors’ title.
It was a difficult race, Norris remarked. Max was completely honest. Today, I gave it my all and came close.
“I’m pleased with today,” he declared. I moved forward in two positions. Once more, the constructors and we had a collective victory.
With only six races left in the season, Verstappen is 63 points ahead of Piastri in the drivers’ standings, while Norris has lost 22 points.
Verstappen remarked, “I believe second today was the best result.”
“I think the entire race was quite challenging, more challenging than I had anticipated, for a variety of reasons.”
Although Piastri may be upset at Norris forcing his way past his teammate on the opening corner, the celebrations for the constructors’ title in the McLaren garage might be muted.
In the other Mercedes, Kimi Antonelli was a distant fifth, Lewis Hamilton, his Ferrari teammate, coming in sixth, ahead of Charles Leclerc.
Fernando Alonso placed eighth for Aston Martin, while Oliver Bearman and Carlos Sainz, who started at the back of the grid after the Williams cars were disqualified from qualifying, placed ninth and 10th.
The crown has been secured.
