Charges are in relation to alleged offences against two women, the police have said.
Comedian and actor Russell Brand will face two further charges, one of rape and one of sexual assault, in relation to alleged offences against two women, the Metropolitan Police have said. The alleged offences took place in 2009, the Crown Prosecution Service said. Brand is due to appear in court next month in relation to the new charges.
The TV and movie star, 50, previously pleaded not guilty to five charges including two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault in relation to alleged offences between 1999 and 2005, involving four women. He denied the charges at Southwark Crown Court in London earlier this year.
In a statement today, the police force said that the CPS has authorised an additional charge of rape and a charge of sexual assault relating to two further women. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates ‘ Court on 20 January 2026.
A trial for the five original charges will take place at Southwark Crown Court on 16 June 2026. Brand is accused of raping a woman in a hotel room and grabbing a TV worker’s breasts and orally raping her after dragging her into a male toilet, the court heard in May.
He was charged following an investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches programme and the Sunday Times in which several women made allegations against him.
Brand has long insisted he is innocent, telling his followers: “I’ve always told you guys that when I was young and single, before I had a wife and family… I was a fool, man. I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord… I have never engaged in non consensual activity, I pray you can see that by looking in my eyes”.
Brand rose to fame on British TV presenting on MTV followed by jobs fronting Big Brother’s Big Mouth. He later was given his own Radio 2 show and became a big star in Hollywood thanks to films Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him To The Greek and Arthur.
